long arms are mostly beneficial for high lifts..

but hey, spend money on long arms. but dont complain when a stock jeep on 31's locked f&r passes you when your stuck on a trail

why not just save a few bucks and get a nice set of adjustable short arms? with the 600 bucks plus shipping you could get some short arms and maybe a locker or something. you are gonna be like ZOMG I HAVE LONG ARMS but cant go as far cause you will still be open open. I feel for a low budget build there is better stuff to spend your money on. Like lockers, skids, etc etc. Plenty of people in this group run short arms and have no problem stayin up with the long arm guys. just my .02 since you seemed to want to keep it a low budget build.

completely agree with this. your jeep will flex fine with short arms and 3 inches of lift. i mean if you think 2 more inches of drop is more important then some lockerz or gears then go for it. but i know the next thing i'm buying for my jeep are lockerz.

Why won't you buys gears? Because you run 32s? You dont even plan on running a larger tire size?

i just dont see the logic in long arms before gears on 3" of lift.. a long arm is there to flatten your control arm angles, at 3" of lift your arms arent really at a huge angle. you would see greater benefits going to 4.56s than going to long arms IMO. i regeared way before i bought long arms and i was even on 4.5" of lift..

why would you do long arms and 3" of lift with 32" tires stock axles with 1 rear locker is the question

35s 3:55s Tranny did not implode ran it for 1 year like that. open/open

I would just get the RE 3.5" kit and be done w/ it. Pretty much can run anything from 31s to 35s depending on how much you are willing to trim. In the meantime... you can save for gears, armor, beefy steering, etc.

When you do re-gear... Just go to 4.88s. Will work great with anything from 32s - 35s.

Will drove my Jeep on Trail 20 for a bit this weekend and his reaction to my setup seems fitting in this thread:

"I forgot how much it sucks to not have a locker"

My point being he didn't say "you need long arms". Also, a limited slip does not compare or even come close to a locker

btw, i ran
31"s on 4.10 - it was good (5 speed 3.0L yota)
35"s on 4.10 - it sucked on road and off road its was moderate at best, going down steep stuff sucked and up stuff worked the tranny. (auto 4.2L)
33" on 3.07 - my god kill me (5 speed 4.0L)
36" on 4.56 - how the axles were geared, works but i want more (5 speed 4.0L)

and just for refrence here is the tire size divided by gear ratio.... the lower the number the better:

31 / 4.1
= 7.5609756097560976

36 / 4.56
= 7.8947368421052632

35 / 4.1
= 8.5365853658536585

32 / 3.55
= 9.0140845070422535 *what you want to do...

33 / 3.07
= 10.749185667752443

so it looks like your better then the "my god i want to kill myself" but not better then the "man this sucks"
