99% of the time I'm on here I'm at work and pics are blocked. So a belated to you haha
Since I'm here, I'll do a little update. Got this together for the shakedown mentioned at Mabell. Only issues were lack of sufficient rear bumpstops and front locker issues. Bumpstop was easy, locker was fawked so I welded it up.
I was concerned about steering power, so I did the West Texas mod on the steering pump. Drilled the orifice to 3/16" and put one tiny little washer under the spring, and got this:
Took it out and left the orifice. Added a steering cooler for insurance. Swapped in Reid's formerly Dana's box and went to go wheel Big Dogs in VA.
Solid 3 days of wheeling in the biggest rocks I've had it in. One tons are fun. Even with the larger pumpkins and [relatively] small tires, I'm still ahead of where I was clearance-wise with 30/8.8 and 33s by just a little.
Only issue I had was a bent pitman arm. It fucking looked like a frown after the second day of wheeling. Not entirely sure why this happened. Threw it in the fire, hammered it flattish again, welded some 5/8" bolts with the heads cut off to the bottom and wheeled the final day. I am curious if the Crown replacement was just shittily manufactured, so I picked up a Waggy arm that actually came off a Waggy. We'll see.
For now, it needs:
Axle seals and the shafts ground for full circle clips
Still have crappy skid on the transfercase, needs rear crossmember to support doubler and full belly skid
Transmission/engine pan skid. Trans pan is a little fucked
Still got the clunky heims, think I'll try JJ when I get the time/money
Probs should do a traction bar
If I ever find a little money in my pocket (HA) I am planning on 37" either MTRs or Creepies, probably with weld on beadlocks. Will probably want real gears shortly after that as well.
For now, I am happy with how it operates for the most part and am looking forward to a season of wheeling that doesn't involve axleshaft hoarding.
Front driveshaft came down onto rock and ripped u bolts off yoke. During extraction, rock rolled up and wedged itself in between the rear axle and gas tank skid and continuous winching netted the above result.
Rear will now get plated like the front and middle. Another strong reminder I need a cage.
Also broke a rear caliper off. Sweet.
Have a full list of jeep, trailer, and tow rig related items to tend to before OER. Gonna be a fun three weeks!!
rock jamming up and somehow ripping the caliper or bracket off.
That's it. Remember when I clocked my brackets? I did not add more metal where one of the new holes was drilled and it was a bit thin tangent to the hole in one spot. Bracket split there as well. That maye have complicated things and been a factor in the caliper actually breaking. But does not change the fact that it all happened because the caliper made contact with a rock.
That happened on the first obstacle. Pulled the caliper off and clamped the hose and wheeled the rest of the weekend until I tore the unibody.
Well lemme know if you need help. I should have time in the next couple weekends. My jeep is ready. I just have to shorten a shaft for a spare.
Helping co-worker on his house during the days this weekend so probably evenings. Next weekend is completely busy. So trying to get as much done weeknights as possible.
