  • The Monument Geyser Basin hike is 2 miles total.
1 mile to the geyser basin and 1 mile back.

A shot of the Gibbon River and a bridge near the trailhead.

We then drove 1/2 of a mile south from the Monument Geyser Basin trailhead to the Beryl Spring.

The hot spring is 5.5 miles south of the Norris intersection or 8.5 miles north of the Madison Intersection.

I have driven by Beryl Spring dozens of times, but never stopped to check it out.

We then drove 3.5 miles south from Beryl Spring to Gibbons Falls.

Gibbon Falls is 9 miles south of the Norris intersection or 5 miles north of the Madison Intersection.

Gibbon Falls is 84 feet high.

Both pictures are from the closest / upper overlook.

    • These pictures are from the middle overlook.

This picture is from the farther / lower overlook.

We then drove 4 miles south from Gibbons Falls to Terrace Spring.

The hot spring is 13 miles south of the Norris intersection or 1 mile north of the Madison Intersection.

I have driven by Terrace Spring dozens of times just like Beryl Spring and had never stopped.

      • Me and the hot spring.

We then drove 1 mile south and 2 miles west from Terrace Spring to the Harlequin Lake trailhead.

The Harlequin Lake trailhead is 2 miles west of the Madison intersection or 12 miles east of West Yellowstone, MT.

        Harlequin Lake.

        Me and the lake.

There were some birds on the lake, but no pictures good enough to post.

There were some downed trees obviously taken down by beaver, but did not see any.

The Harlequin Lake hike is 1 mile total.
1/2 a mile to the lake and 1/2 a mile back.

        • A dozen or so elk in a meadow on our way out of the park.

A young male elk next to the Madison River inside the park.

Between - Artists' Paint Pots, Monument Geyser Basin & Harlequin Lake we hiked over 4 miles.

We also saw Beryl Spring, Gibbons Falls & Terrace Spring.

On the 6 stops between Artists' Paint Pots to Harlequin Lake we only drove 12 miles.

Another young male elk close to the road.

            • I went on a snowcoach tour in Yellowstone National Park on January 8th. They picked us up in Big Sky at 700am and dropped us back in Big Sky at 600pm. All for free! including the snowcoach tour itself.

              I highly recommend Yellowstone Vacations.

Bald eagle perched 5 miles into the park near the Madison River.

Some trumpeter swan 6 miles into the park in the Madison River.
