    What do you want it for trail riding, commuting, snow, mud bogging, competing?
    You need to figure out where you want to go with the rig before we start suggesting what to build next. They are all different setups, some cross over but it is better to have a plan on what you want, tire size and the difficulty of trails you want to accomplish.

    Safety and keep your rig from breaking is the most important.

    If it was me I would add a locker and compete in RCrocs class 1.
    I enjoy the competition that class is not expensive to be competitive, you can make a 33" rig very capable.

      yea i know the whole rear axle game, Ive done alot of research in that area. i guess i was looking for more opinions on the front.
      I'm Planning on going to 35's after the rear swap

      Is it worth swapping the D30 with the 2.5L still in it?

            well im going to school in VT next year, I will be bring the jeep with me. So that means it will be making a 6.5 hr drive every once in a while. I would like to have a rig that can take what ever i throw at it.

            I like the exploration scene more then the crawling and far more then the mudding scene

              i like the 8.8 over the 44, stock vs stock i would say they are about equal. Built you are correct the 8.8 will out do the 44 any day. Availability on both are about the same. If i could make it cheap to convert and 8.8 to 6x5.5 i would sell my 44 rear in a heart beat

                  the tubes that spin on the 8.8 can be solved by welding them to the 3rd member. Carriers not a huge deal. As for the neck down i have never seen any issues with them at all. They run them all day in 600hp mustangs and such with no issues

                  in stock form i would not trust my 44 on anything bigger than 35" tires. Where as i know someone with a stock 31 spline 8.8 on 38" tires spooled with no issues

                                are they the goofy ass ones with the million holes for different lug patterns? i may look into it farther down the road all depends on what i can sell the 44 for
