What do you not like about it now????

I would say wonton steering, scrap the D35 for a d44 or 8.8 and gear it... and wheel the piss outta it.

what about dana 60 vs. 8.8 vs. 44? the 44 i have heard is semi weak, the 8.8 very strong, but how good is the dana 60? better than 8.8 im assuming, but what size ring gear, shafts does it have etc....

Well with a dana 30 front i dont think a 60 would be smart. also with 33" tires a dana 60 would be stupid due to ground clearance issues

well my thought was to put a 8.8 or 44 in the rear and regear to 4.88's. and keep the 30, beefy steering.

                      60? I think you're being slightly overworried.

                      A 44 or 8.8 would be plentystrong

                            8.8
                            Benefits:
                            Larger ring gear
                            Thicker tubes
                            31 spline
                            Availability
                            Disc brakes

                            Disadvantages:
                            c-clip
                            Less ground clearance
Not exactly Jeep width 1.5" narrower iirc
Not bolt in, so you better learn to weld and get good at it

                            D44
                            Benefits:
Bolt in available if you have a TJ if its from a tj
                            More ground clearance
                            Larger aftermarket support

                            Disadvantages:
                            Drum brakes
                            30 spline
                            8.5"? ring gear
                            Smaller tubes
More expensive if you are getting one from a TJ
