  • My 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel Tow Rig

This is my 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Laramie 4x4 diesel. I bought the truck with 162,000 miles. It came with a 4" MBRP exhaust, k&n drop in filter, and possibly a fuel cam plate. I added a brake controller, CD player, and muffler delete and increased the transmission line pressure. I also do all my own maintenance including oil change, fuel filters, fuel strainers, valve lash adjustments, transmission service including band adjustment, and more.

The only problem is the truck is kind of a rust bucket, but for the price of the truck, its no big deal.

Well the rust was getting kinda bad so I decided to redo the body, since I never own anything without taking it apart.

So I aquired this parts truck, which I bought, removed the parts I wanted which included an excellent condition bed and hood and some small parts, and sold

I bought some mint doors at a junkyard and a rear bumper from some guy on craiglist

New Rockers and cab corners from Auto Body Specialties in Middlefield, CT

    And of course

    Time to get started...

If that's a rust bucket, you should have seen my father's old K-10

            Start
Remove the old rusty bed and rear bumper

Fitting a fullsize bed in the back of a mini truck bed with a plasma cutter

Remove front bumper, headlights and eventually fenders

Remove rear wiring, shocks, exhaust hanger mounts, fuel tank, shackles, springs.
Grind, wire-wheel, sand frame to remove rust

Its easier to clean under the frame, with it up high

            Lookin better...

More to come, including some performance upgrades

Thanks, I have grown to love these trucks but a lot of them get rusty at the bottom of the doors and rockers. Mine are pretty bad...

I'm no towing expert, but if you are throwing some power into this beast, i would take those blocks out and get some springs just because of the weight.

I know that's how a lot of rigs come, like i said i don't have a lot of experience with towing, but a new set of leafs would make me feel better. If he's replacing a lot of rusty shit on the rig i figured why not get rid of some stock rusty springs and blocks.
