IMO some sort of shock or spring is way beyond the scope of something like this...some kind of dampening via material like a padded surface may be better suited...the jeep is going to be going fast, but i dont think the vibrations will be deadly intense... with the onboards mounted anywehre on the jeep you cant see any kind of vibration and they have 0 image stabilization

So, more camera mount stuff. (engineering minds of SiS)

But then again, I could make something on a smaller scale using coil springs...

Problem is with most of our projects is that there isn't a center and finding it with a 4 jaw chuck would take too much time. You're a ___________

"good enough for government work" would work here IMO..
oh also, clamp should have rubber strips in it- Will

maybe:
the vertical tube is welded to the plate at the top, on top of that is a thick layer of some foam, on top of that is another plate, that the cam mounts to...and so there isnt a solid metal connection between the 2 plates to transfer vibes throughout...the 2 plates are connected to one another via rubber straps (or i guess even zipties?) at each corner to sandwich the foam.
there is no rigid connection between anything the camera is attached to, therefore any vibes are greatly reduced and cushioned. acts like the spring concept but more stable and feasible?- Will

With something holding the two plates together? This should work fine.

The memory foam with a few coil springs will work just fine.

Yes, 4 posts will hold the two plates together as guides and use soft coil springs as well.sigpic

Shotgun magazine tube spring will work perfectly. It isn't a lot of force, but it will help the memory foam.
At each corner you'll have a guide with a coil spring. The foam will make up the center. The guides will hold the plates together as well as guide them so it doesn't tilt or seize.sigpic
