  • So, more camera mount stuff. (engineering minds of SiS)

So after the tripod slide mount we made, the next thing i wanna tackle is a vehicle mount for the XHA1 (the main camera i use). I will NOT mount it out of my reach like an on-board, so this leaves passenger mounting options.

I figured a design that mounts to one of the Jeep's rockslider rails would make sense.

Rough sketch of what I am brainstorming

It has lexan shields to keep shit off the body of the camera on either side, as itll be exposed outside the jeep...and i want to figure out some sort of clamp that can attach to the end of a piece of tube, it can (to the piece of tube the cam sits on) weld on, bolt on, whatever...basically it needs to be attached to the jeep for stability...and unless youve ever tried to film out the side of a jeep at 50-60mph off road and keep something steady in frame, dont bother telling me to "just hold it"

im not familiar with any kind of clamp or industrial application i could use for this, maybe someone else is? also this general design would allow me to use it on other jeeps as well, not just specific to mine.

p.s., the clamp doesnt need to be able to move or anything, all the cameras movement/spin will be incorporated up top via a tripod head or similar, and itll be controlled by someone in the passenger seat, not just left as-is. and obviously this is done fully doorless.

hey hey hey...the ENTIRE passenger side got soaked (including me ) so no matter how fast i pulled the camera back in it would have gotten soaked

imjust kidding...but regardless...any filming for a job would be in an area i know and be planned accordingly...no random huge puddles in unscouted terrain

i have a rain jacket for the camera anyway

Your sliders are box tubing I believe? also what is the OD on the tubing?

So, can the vertical post come straight up or does it need to be angled out to clear the body?
                      You're a ___________

i can put a bend in it if i need to, but i believe it can go straight up without any issues to speak of...without the doors on theres a lot of clearance there...plus it needs to be within reasonable reaching distance of the guy sitting inside the jeep

The outer part of his slider is tube and I'm pretty sure the vertical piece can go un-obstructed to the roof as long as he doesn't mount it in the way of the door handles
