William, instead of mounting it off the slider, mock up something that slides into your door hinges, like a tubedoor/camera mount, this way you have two mounting points instead of one for better rigidty of the structure, and also you could swing the camera in and out of the vehicle to either gain a better shot, or to tuck the camera inside the jeep to protect it from a sudden enemydirty30

i didnt read anything else, but-
any steadycam needs to be floating, this mount will suck dick if its not steadied at all. a cheap/easy way of doing this would be making something that can move up and down independently of the mount to the vehicle. mount an arm to the main mount, mount the cam mount to the other side of the arm. put a handle on the camera side, and have the operator hold it. youll need a shock to help control it, storm door shocks can work well if you get the adjustable ones. mccmaster carr and grainger have lots.

the image stabilization in the camera offsets any small jars/moves very well
a super loose tripod head adjustment will allow up and down pan to a small enough degree...and arm on a joint is something ive considered...
also reading the thread may reveal that the whole thing isnt just simply rigidly mounted metal to metal...- Will

i mean, results are relative. the experiments i've done with various mounts without a floating mount did give me pretty good video, but its not professional enough nor steady enough for a finished product. but thats just me. and yea i saw you wanted some sort of anti shock.

you arent going to get a BMW road commercial out of a KOH environment unless youve got 20 quintillion doll hairs to drop on a big budget crane... i know what to expect- Will
