ive had my fair share of cage experience(mainly on racecars)... in which i have played with all 3 forms talked about. i never said i would never use schedule 40.. hell, i have a couple sticks layin in my garage.... the one thing i have noticed with the schedule 40 is that on hard impacts i have seen the material crack around the welds which in case is not the metal but the temp at which the metal was heated to and became brittle. i have taken a HARD hit with hrew, the frame wrapped around the cage but the cage seamed to be solid with more of a "forgiving" appearence. I then decided i wanted DOM for my side protection and cut out the hrew and threw that in place for the little bit better strength...
i just realized i mumbled on about something with no importants really but to show that i have been there done that. the only thing i dont like about the so called POOP pipe was the weight.. where in racing it is a huge factor. soooooooo....
here is my closing statement to stay completely on the thread topic,
it all works.. some cost more than others... anything with a cage is better than none, and i dont see any reason sched. 40 cant be used in recreation offroad hobbies.Originally posted by Ktmracer419some people choose video games

Bumping this thread for Willeh.

It would have been nicer if they used .120 wall HREW as well, but it's still interesting to see the difference between DOM and poop.

Not a big difference pricewise per foot if you are buying material at market prices. I went with DOM, my safety is priceless.
Although a good design and sturdy construction seem to be more important than material section for a hobbyist jeep/truck.
My friends old rig, made out of sch 40 pipe that he got really cheap so he used it. It took a beating, and as you can see there were some long, unsupported lengths.
Another friend of mine who has great faith in his sch 40 cage!
