For the record, I'm just playing the devils advocate here...

How many sched 40 cages have you seen that have been in "hard" rollovers to warrant the confidence in the material?

Hmmm, cage materials. You mean metal? Why would I know anything about the physical properties of metal?

How is schedule 40 pipe a less than ideal material for use in a cage structure?

or in retard terms: why are you referring to something not related in any way to plumbing as "poop pipe"? mr. metallurgist?

2 rigs in person. One of those two was rolled 3 times that day. None of which were "gentle rolls"

all i ever see is proof displayed that sched 40 cages work, and i have yet to ever see anyone anywhere post or show me one instance of anything even approaching proof that one failed due to it being made of schedule 40, other than people regurgitating the term "poop pipe" because they heard someone say it some time.

id say those are good odds

ngentile0913 (12:43:26 AM): id only trust DOM, i once heard about this video of this guy rolling down into the grand canyon with a DOM cage, dude flipped his rig over and drove right on out

internet proof of DOM being the only answer

1.25 sch 40 a503 grade B which is 1.66 od and .140 wall is within 4k PSI to 1.75 .120 wall 1020 DOM in tensile strength. They are within 1k PSI in ultimate strength. The difference in weight is less than .6 lb/ft .

'Pipe' made to A500 grade B, for example, is basically HREW 1018 steel in a pipe size. Sold often as structural tubing, at steel mills. A53b is also similar, not quite a strong in tensile/yield. The rectanuglar hot rolled that I get from my particular steel yard is also A500b.

Proper cage design, and proper fabrication technique will allow you to have a strong, safe cage, whether made from DOM, HREW, or one of those types of 'Pipe', for the average wheeler. If you cage demands are above average, you budget should be, as well.
