do you guys think the wear in this gear pattern is ok? its my rear 44 ring gear. changed the fluid and found a little bit of metal and there was a bit of wear on the ring gear. all thoughts welcome

To me it looks like that duller colored area is what is getting driven? Anyways that's the coast side of the gears. I'd rather see the drive side of the gears with many more pics. Get some paint if ya can. Mustard would probably work.

Either way it looks like the pinion depth is wayyyyy off.

the drive side is perfect. the only wear is the very shiny marks at the bottom of the pic on the coast side as you were saying. i refilled it already and emailed the guy who did it. hoping to bring it back up to him tomorrow to straighten it out but i wanted a second opinion by you guys so i know exactly the issue.

as i said the play between the pinion and ring is very minimal and the only wear at all are those marks on the coast side.

      thanks for the response corey

This. You are suppose to change the fluid after the first 500 miles to rid yourself of those metal shards floating around inside the fluid.

i change by fluid after teh miles

but i think the break in time is bullshit

do trailered rigs put 500 miles street time to break in their gears?

i was expecting metal in the fluid. the wear on the inside of the ring gear is what bothers me. corey was saying the pinion is too deep. if this is the case i'm going to have the guy who did them fix it asap

im pretty sure my pinion is too deep on my 60, but i rock it.

although i didnt like it, the pattern was "acceptable" according to my yukon instruction booklet.

the wear on it is minimal but its enough to concern me. if it's going to wear in that way and still be strong i'm fine with it. this is just my paranoia making sure its ok.

i'd say the marks are 1/4 up the way up the coast side of the ring

do trailer rigs spend 100s of miles heating and cooling the gears in cycles of distance driving of which the "break in" is supposedly for?

unless you count the drive to the trailhead "breaking in" i didn't break shit in.

                              and shit didnt blow up
