Your on 31s you really dont need to tow your jeep, you dont do trails taht are that hard I wouldnt worry. And like alex said that ranger is gonna be on its limits. Just because you can doesnt mean you should!

I think this is the bigger thing. The likelihood that you will damage your Jeep beyond the point of being able to get it home is pretty unlikely, and not enough to warrant white-knuckling it towing with a truck just outside it's optimistic limits.

Enjoy the simplicity of not needing a tow rig while you can... I miss it sometimes!

yeah i have over towed before, lemmy tell you when the trailer starts pushing the truck around a corner or you swerve to avoid something the truck is to light to control the load, scary stuff

If you want to tow then tow! Ive towed with nothing but vehicles that are considered not good tow rigs. Three things, make sure the brakes work well and the trailer brakes work even better. Make sure the cooling system is up to par including trans cooling and the fan clutch is actually in good working condition (90% of them are worn out and need replacemnt). When it comes to hills and needing to downshift pull the shifter back yourself because then it will allow the torque converter to lock up in that gear which is what keeps the transmission from building a ton of heat.

I agree my 350 tows like there is nothing there. That's 2,150 truck ratings lower. All kidding aside you really should have a 3/4 truck minimum to tow with. There are many reasons like power, brakes, transmission cooling, frame capability, etc. It can be done with lower but I would think twice about towing with a half ton truck simply because of the brakes and cooling are normally not up to the job and the base engines are not that great either. I would not even think about towing with a quarter ton truck.

My 1500 and Jon's 2500 have the same motor, exact same. So whoever says they don't have the power is retarded. Yes, the 1500 has a weaker rear end and softer leaf springs, but its still rated to tow 8000 lbs. And its already set up with a brake controller and has a transmission cooler. For towing a jeep on a car trailer there is nothing wrong with a 1500.

Just take it easy with whatever your towing and it will be fine. Increase your following distance and be more alert there's really no need to tow at 80mph.

My 2500 tows fine and with its 4.56 geairs it doesn't struggle up hill at all
