haha ive read that they are noisy and tend to bind and whatnot, i guess it has to break in or i have to get over it lol, either way i love it i cant wait to take it to rausch..
on another note did any of you guys fill out the back of the aussie instructions packet and send it in or something for the warranty, i cant find mine right now its probably outside in my jeep but i was just curious if u have to send it in..-Jason

started building a gas tank skid today, bought a sheet of 3x4 1/8" steel, hopefully thats all i need it cost 50$ steel is crazy money right now...
anywho here are the brackets, just made the bends so far where they mount under the hitch on the uniframe rails:
i have a "brush guard" type skid that came stock with the WJ but its only 1/25" thick lol and the upgraded one that came on certain WJs is 1/8" and since the stock skid holds the actual gas tank in place im just going to build around it and try to hug it as best as possible since WJ gas tank is crazy low to begin with:
i think 1/8" should be fine, 3/16 might be better but im trying to keep the weight low and price low, maybe not the best way to build something but oh well...last time at rausch i only scraped it alittle so i think this will be fine...
tomorrow hopefully ill get the brackets the right length and start on the belly/flat piece WJ gas tank is a weird shape its going to be annoying then ill weld it together and paint it..probably wont finish tomorrow but im in no rushLast edited by lakailimited06; 03-06-2009, 07:17 PM.-Jason

I have a stock ZJ skid on my xj and its only 1/8 and though its not very beefy its held up just fine for the times that i needed it. Better than nothing. I love your jeep BTW, modded WJs are amazing.Lady bugs don't like it when you paint stripes on them

today got the brackets drilled and cut the gaps out to clear the fuel hose thing whatever it is anyway heres a pic mounted:
they arent going to be nearly that low, i just left them alittle long to make sure i had some room to play with the belly part of the skid..they'll be cut on an angle once i get it all tacked up, i got started cutting the belly pportion to the right length and width and im going to put about a 20* bend in it towards the center to hug the tank as best as possible:
hopefully tomorrow ill have it all welded, cut, painted and mounted..-Jason

started late today, got the belly bent so i could tac it to the brackets:
ended up needing a way bigger bend i measured way off..tacked to the brackets:
then finished the welds on both sides and cut the excess bracket off and grinded it down:
still need to add some gussets/bracing whatever its called, add some lips for more protection possibly prime and paint..all next weekend hopefully..-Jason

basically finished the tank skid today, love the way it came out except its a bitch to get on because i guess when i welded the bracket, it pulled them in when the metal cooled...still fits though, tomorrow i just gotta paint it up and drill some holes in it because why the hell not:
crappy night shots sorry:
for my first welding project im pretty happy with it, im also addicted i want to build summo shit..-Jason

some pics:
before:
after:
also put in IRO front coil retainers which im not happy with at all should have just made my own..
im gonna scratch the idea of LCA skids and if anything just beef them up alittle with bracing or something, but next im gonna maybe make a better TC skid or start on a front bumper once figure out how i want to make them..-Jason
