Its 2.5" back there because that's what I thought it was already when I bought the length of 2.5" to use for my tailpipe. It wasn't, but it became 2.5" after that
Drove around back roads for about 20 minutes. Really not bad. Needs clunky lower link heims finally replaced and alignment. Good shocks would be nice but not mandatory. Pretty close to my goal of 100 mile radius wheeling I'd say.
Muffler is much quieter under all conditions except for load where it drones a bit. If I really do start driving it a lot and it bugs me, might grab a Dynomax turbo to plate up and run.
Drove this a little more, changing my mind a little haha
I've got no power above 2k rpms. It will rev higher, but takes a long time and seems like its working really hard to get nowhere. I've got some codes, a couple point to cps and tps. It runs and starts fine, so first things I'm going to do are tps, ignition tune up and air filter. All well overdue.
I also feel like there is more bouncing than I feel comfortable with. Shocks should be ok, but maybe need something a little stiffer for springs that have gotten wheeled hard for 5 years?
So with that, let's open that box'o'pandora and talk about shocks. I know nothing about them. I notice (and Andy has as well) that his and Matt's rigs keep wheels planted and absorb bumps much better than mine. Do I have to spend $300/ea on shocks to get there? I think I could stomach spending $100/ea for a middle of the road shock... is that a pipe dream? I see y'all's talk about Billsteins and valving. Anyone have a "shocks for dummies" page or other thread with good info?
Hmmmm...shocks. Im thinking of getting some too. Maybe that would make the bronco a little more tolerable. Im pretty sure my shocks are just there for cosmetic purposes so even a cheap shock would help me.
you'll quickly find all shock manufacturers use different valving numbers so nothing translates
i have always sworn by fox and their system
how much uptravel do you currently have?
fox 2.0s valved accordingly will do you well
i played with spring rates and shock valving quite a bit on my xj for some time, got a lot of input from guys who tune shocks for a living in the process and i think came out with something pretty good. xjs are limited in what you can do just by the nature of them and how much travel you have to work with.
