Finished the skid plate this week. Happy how it turned out but it was a real PITA. It was a lot of measuring to get the holes to line up. In the end I had to use the drill press and make the holes 1/16" DIA larger. I clamped the whole thing together to prevent heat distortion from welding which proved to be pretty key. After all that, the hitch bolted right up and I was pretty content on calling that a day.
Angle iron is used to space it apart and fill the gap.
I would have made on that said Maru Racing Innovations but the water jet is currently out for repairs

Today I picked up an XJ44. The axle is complete end to end but the brakes are off since it was freshly stripped down, wire wheeled, and sanded. It also came with a set of 4.56 Motive gears and master install kit for a price I really couldn't argue with.
The plan is to have it built completely out of the Jeep and judging on how much time I have left shore side, throw it in and gear the 30 or just wait until I come home again in March.
The goal by the time I leave is to have it geared, locked, painted, and switch it to disc brakes.
I'm also looking for a locker for it. I'm tossing up between a Detroit and a Powertrax. Its about damn time I gear and get a freaking locker.
why waste the money on a powertrax. i get having a full case like the detroit but you aren't exactly very hard on your rig where you are going to destroy a stock case. i've daily driven aussies in both my lifted xj's and they are great, plus being $200 you really can't go wrong man
Get an aussie dude. They are like 250 brand new, they work well. Ive done plenty of full throttle clutch dumping assaults with mine on a stock carrier and never had an issue with the carrier breaking.
