Been a while since an update. Clayton 5" rear stretch in progress got coil spring mounts and out boarded shocks welded in by Mr Zullo himself. Extended Corner guards and mini boat sides by genright are being rough fit this week along with paint. Got rear 44 from Dana's jeep in place. Wheel base 100", pinion angle set got to measure and order drive shaft. After I get the rear half done than I will swap in the front waggy 44 from Dana's jeep into mine. Hoping to get everything done for sept. 22nd run At Rausch.
Went to go mount genright fuel tank into jeep and it hits the pumpkin fml. I thought I ordered a 15 gal one but looking at the paper work it was a 19.5 gal one but says it would work for a 5" stretch. So either get the 10.5 gal tank or fuel cell. Any advice?
Havn't had time to update this thread so here it goes. Complete 5" clayton stretch with high clearance trac bar mount. Genright gas tank wouldn't fit under the jeep so, ratchet straped it in the tub directly over the rear tires. Jumped up to a 37" mtr-k kinda wish i just went to a sticky. Tube fenders are from sniper fab, they were a little stuborn to put on really need two people for that job. I had to cut the genright "stretch" corner armor, they said it would fit but i need to trim a good amount off it. The mini boat sides from genright were very heavy and quility looked good. Installed riddler covers on both 44's, eventually i need to fix a small leak ( gear oil) on the rear 44 at the axle end. The first shake down run went good at mabel, the wheel base opened up a bunch of differant lines (101" WB). The mtr-k were decent i heard the first run out with them they will be stiff. Bent the genright boat sides into the side of the tub . Over the winter i need to adress the steering issue, trying to turn 37s is no fun. Waggy 44 front, waggy pitman arm, stock waggy steering set up for otk, stock tj box. Thats all i gotta say bout that.
Yep, you need hydro assist. All things considered it diddnt seem too bad. But man, you will love it once you do assist. Really, its cheap and easy to do too.
Upgraded to a dana 60 for the rear of the TJ. Ordered it through east coast gear supply. Has a spool, stayed with the 4.56 gears, chromo shafts, disc's, clayton truss + brackets. My old bilstein 5100 seemed to be stuck in place , kinda like frozen. Put them in a vise, and nothing, frozen solid. Installed a set of bilstein 5160 with res. Dont have money for the fronts so the rear will work for now. The drive shaft had to be cut down to 26". Fleet pride in milford cut it down to size, and only charged 70 bucks. My cousin gave me a spare tire carrier that he had mounted in his pick up truck, so i mounted it in the jeep. The tail gate had to get cut off though, unfortunatly i have a IROK as a spare . Hydro assist is still needed but besides that the jeep will be staying this way for a while. Over next winter *probably* beadlocks, 37" comp maxxis treps, atlas.....
Long time no update. Was able to make 3 wheeling runs this year . At OER broke a nitro "hd u joint" but the ears on the shaft are fine. Ripped two valve stems so air burps out. Moneys tight right now so no more wheeling till spring, got to think about the next upgrade to the waggy 44. Current build specs on the axle are 456 gears, Detroit, nitro chromo shafts with hd nitro joints, warn lockouts, welded tubes, 80's chevy 1 ton brakes and spindles, ford hubs and rotors, chevy knuckles. My question is do you think this axle will last with rcv's, drive slugs, and 37" comp treps on ALUMINUM beadlocks? Weighed my mtr-k on black steelie = 102lbs. Comp treps tire only = 90 lbs. + whatever an aluminum beadlock weighs. Or just ditch axle and build 9".
