Ballistic has been good to me, but I will never use a flex joint, in anything, ever, no matter who makes it. With the exception of maybe a johnny joint, never had a problem with one of those, but wouldnt be my first choice.

aaaaaahahahahahahaha, man, if I knew then what I know now

yeah, I put together some packs with waggy main leafs. They are 57" long. I used a 7" long boomerang shackle and I thought it was gonna be bad ass. Well once I got done the shackle hit the body so the springs wouldnt compress.
So I enacted plan B and swapped out the waggy main for a 4.5" XJ main. Went back to my JKS shackles. Seems ok. I would like the second leaf to extend a little further but i didnt have 2 long enough. I would have had to use one of my really bent ones. So we will see how it holds up.
I used a heavy straight overload leaf on the bottom too to act as an antiwrap bar sort of.
              First attempt and fail.

              Finished product.

              Dan.

              • After another successful trip to Rausch there are a couple things that definitely need to be addressed. They have been on the list for a while but have now become first priority.
                Steering, and gear reduction.
The gearing has been pretty decent for what it is, but in big rocks it really needs more.
So, I am picking up a used Klune "David" V drive with 4:1 gears with a D20 setup for twin sticks. This will give be a 4 speed T-case with 3 low range gears to choose from. I hope to have this here in the next couple weeks.
The steering has been on my mind for a while now too, and with the amount that the Jeep actually gets driven I finally made up my mind to just go full hydro.
Im going to run an 8" DE cylinder and a load reacting orbital so it will be drivable still. My assist parts are already sold so this is a done deal as well. Just need to buy the parts. T-case first though.

                        • It's 1" longer than a 231 with a sye. So that should be perfect. My read shaft is a little too short now, and my front is shortened. So I might be able to use stock shafts front and rear. If not what I have should work anyway. The yokes are 1310 cv style so its basically a bolt in. I am a little worried about shafts but I can address that later.

                            • Small update. Doubler shipped from NV Wednesday, so it should be here hopefully today or tomorrow.
Talked with PSC through Pirate and got really good pricing on their XJ/TJ full hydro kit so that will hopefully be ordered in the next couple weeks.
So while Im waiting for that the cases should be installed.
Anyone know anything about mechanically driving the 231 speed sensor? I have to adapt the speedo cable to the VSS so the trans shifts.

                              • Doubler is in! After only messing with it for 3 days Turns out the 5 speed input shaft is longer and bottoms out on an automatic. Thanks Harry.
Got the Klune shifter mounted. Ill get some pics tomorrow.
Now just to figure out the twin stick shifters and notch the x-member for the drive shaft.
Steering should be ordered this week too!
