why do people hate on the IFS ? they ride so nice. my buddy just got an '09 dually and its sick

i know quite a few people with fords 7.3L and 6.0L... the ones with the 6.0 are fast, and the ones with the 7.3L pull lots of stuff... almost every day and no one ever complain about them

ok so here I go on a rant.

fuck the 6.0 powerstroke. yes it may be fast, but ford has lost so much much money on warranty work since the damn thing has come out. We blew one up at work and I know a few people who have blown theirs up. if you are going to get a powerstroke, get a 7.3. hands down. than, there is fuel mileage. powerstroke gets the worst of them all. the new 6.4 powerstroke gets 8 mpg. fuck that. cummins and duramax both get over 20. older 7.3 powerstrokes get around 15 and the 6.0 gets a little less than that. my 12 valve cummins gets around 18 average but have had over 20. ford auto and dodge autos both suck. you dont want one. but both have very strong manual transmissions. and obviously the duramax has the allison. As for towing capabilities, I dont care what your truck is rated at, nothing outpulls or outows a cummins. and im not saying that just cause I have one. straight 6 low end torque for the win. duramax dont pull too bad but are very fast when you start putting more power to them. It doesnt take much to get them to rip. but go watch a truck pull and tell me who wins. top 5 will be all cummins with maybe a duramax or a powerstroke in there. thats why most guys who pull with fords put cummins motors in them. the cummins is a truck motor. it is built, and it is tough. as for comforts, ford has the king ranch edition which is a gorgeous truck. dodge is fairly boring interior but is semi comfortable. the duramax has IFS so it is going to be a great ride and the interiors are nothing too special. As for the rest of the drivetrain, all have great rear axles (chevy-14 bolt, ford-sterling 10.25. dodge- dana 70/dana 80/AMC beefyness). but some fords run dana 50 fronts and chevy is IFS. dodge runs dana 60s. As for reliability, I would take a cummins motor, with a ford body(cause I like their styling) and a built allison trans. I could go on and on about this but its late and im not in the mood.

      yay comfort = Duramax
      all out towing = Cummins
bells and whistles = king ranch ford (the regular ones are lame as hell)

best all around/daily driver = duramax- (anyone see that coming from me?)
or cummins(if you dont mind a little more of a truck like feel)

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

My brother had a (03???) i believe Duramax dually with a bunch of work done to it, on 40's. And i loved driving that truck, like Andrew said it wasn't the nicest looking truck, but damn it rode and drove smooth and had a shitload of power even on semi truck tires basically.

            BORKED

            that's why.

And 03 was when ford had a ton of problems with those trucks. They offered a trade in for the price people paid for the truck and 5k added to that for "the inconvenience". Pretty sure they had a ton of electrical issues.

this is exactly what i was gonna say. I would much rather have the IFS in my tow rig. you are not wheeling it, who needs a solid axle? It is plenty strong enough anyway. you dont need a dana 60 to conquer the parking lot at rausch. I would much rather be more comfortable. Those chevys ride like a god damn dream

and dan 99.9% of people wont be doing that with their chevys so that is irrelevent

good lord! you wrote enough didnt you! um but id have to put my say in this
id say that a new 24v cummins would be a good daily driver not the duramax, and id also dissagree with your towing one too, i know from experience that dads dodge sucks ass with heavy loads, and i know that the older and newer durmax let alone a 3/4 ton chevy do better at hauling. the old 12v cummins just need better trannys but the motors are greeeat, and the stock ones drive greeat! yep thats my say...as for fords i have no idea, but i do know that even a little 150 can out haul my dads 24v cummins, sad to admit but yes its true
my ride: 99 alero, with ram 1500 emblems... aka the Ram Alero!

                  dead ride: 95 cummins,

OK! Let me rephrase all this, btw andrew your post was helpful! anyway...

I will not be doing truck pulls, I will not be drag racing. I will be hauling, probably jeep and buggy. In the future a trailer. Something like kurts or eugenes for whoever have seen them. approx 43' box trailers

I have always had chevys and love chevys, but Im not completely against dodge and cummins. thats why i was asking. Ill drive a smart car before I drive a god damn ford though. although I do agree with andrew that king ranch is a sexy fucking truck. basically I just wanted some reassurance that the chevy wouldnt blow up on me. As for IFS, seriously? Its a DD road truck, not a climbing machine.

Now any years in chevy i should be aware of? I like all the new stuff but thats probably out of the price range. Dont like anything pre 2000, anything wrong with the 2500HD over the 3500?

                      P.S.

I dont know a whole lot about diesels, but they put on alot higher mileage than gas motors right? So is there I certain mileage i should stay away from? like is 100k on a diesel motor fine is 200k fine etc etc?

The difference between the 2500HD and the 3500 is the payload. For what it seems like you will be towing a 2500 will be fine for you. Mileage isnt really a factor. You need to look into how it was maintained. Check and see if you have black smoke poring out the back when you romp on it. If you do that could indicate that the injectors are going. If your going with a chevy try to get the 6.6 not the 6.5.

Black smoke means your not burning all your fuel.

They use the 7.3L (made by international btw) motor in school buses and those things are fugging heavy. Ford 7.3 all the way

100k on a diesel is just broken in... should start to get better fuel mileage at that point too

If you own a 7.3L for 1 million miles international will give you a new motor free
