  • Cummins or Duramax?

What are some serious opinions on Cummins or Duramax? I know there are some cummins lovers on here, but what are the true advantages and disadvantages between the two?
You better decide if you are hanging on the cross, or banging in the nails

I know that the newer 05+ duramax engines had alot of injector issues and are more likely to throw a rod alot sooner in its life then a powerstroke or a cummins.

the weakness on the cummins is the transmission. The Auto they put in it is absolute trash. I know nothing about the 5 or 6 speeds they also put in em. The Allison they stick in the D max can hold some decent power.

If only the D max had power to give.

But a F350, with a cummins and an allison tranny and you have an amazing truck.

new trucks? Ford. the 6.4's are awesome (Minus gas milage while towing)

Duramax's are sexy, rigs are comfortable and there the cadilacs of diesels. IFS front is a drawback. Power is great, but its a chevy so it may or may not have alot of little issues.

Dodges have had turbo issues that may have been worked out by now, the dualys have gay fenders and the inside is still the cheesiest interiors ever made.

Old? 7.3 power strokes and the 12 and 24 valve cummins are money.

my next truck will be the scorpion F350

Allisons are trash behind any kind of power. the hydrolics cant keep up and break. Go to a track with someone running a allison behind a motor with any kind of power, they ussualy have 2-3 other trannys in the trailer.

seriously? My friend has an 07, cheap chip, intake, straight pipe and it stomps my friends powerjoke with a fully built ATS tranny and an SCT chip, and exhaust.

But I agree with the f350 body with that motor and tranny combo. They made adapters to run the allison on the cummins...

Ok news to me then. Now the question is, What it the best 3/4/ 1 ton tranny then?

I always knew Allison to be the tough as nails tranny for these kinds of trucks but i have no personal experience with them, just reading and friends experience.

As far as the Duracrap goes, it may make power with mods and chips and such but i still think a stock powerstroke or cummins will kick a duracraps ass.

But... i am biased and dont really like Chevy when it comes to work trucks. To me there is a reason that 99% of the local construction companies, and city workers and gov't vehicles are fords with a few chevys here and there and to everyones surprise (lol) no dodge trucks.
