  • Is the 21 drinking age appropriate?

I have heard many many discussions on this subject recently.

The main arguements i have heard are if you can die for your country when you are 17/18 and can vote at 18, why is the age to consume alchohol 21?

I'd like to hear what you guys think.

I think it is appropriate. keeps alcohol out of the high schools where the kids are less mature and prone to do more stupid stuff

I agree, lower it back down to 18. The today show last night was talking about this.

that argument is for clueless people

"u can die for your country" isnt that simple

you go through endless training, conditioning, and preparation in the military to be tasked with that responsibility. and it changes people. and conditions them with whats necessary.

drunken teens are merely that, drunken teens, and put peoples lives in danger behind the wheel more often than not when drunk driving. its a matter of maturity.

the military argument is completely out the window IMO

lol. I think we should make people take tests before they can consume alcohol.

I agree with that, personally i think it should be 19. The high school arguement is legit, at 19 most/everyone will be out of high school by then.

Just because you lost your license, doesn't mean we should start rallying for a new cause.

But in all seriousness, regardless of age, people still abuse alcohol. Age is hardly an issue anymore because it is almost socially accepted for minors to be drinking. The people who are in the military and choose to defend their country with their lives and those old enough to vote still seem to fuck up with alcohol. The age will never be changed and it helps keep drunk kids like you off the road.

If everyone wants to bash me then go ahead because you guys obviously have no idea what you are talking about. The drinking age does nothing to keep drunk teens of the roads. If you want me to elaborate then i will. This thread is not about me, it is a serious topic i brought up.

you arent forced to serve in the military. so dying for your country and cant have a beer argument is void

Just because "drunk teens are already on the road"

doesnt give credence to the case of lowering the drinking age as a result of that.

it makes it harder for it to occur. therefore its a law. not every law can be enforced perfectly all the time.

People get murdered all the time, its illegal though, might as well just make it legal i suppose

As for the "u can die for your country arguement" it does hold water, i know plenty of my friends who will see iraq before they are 19 years old.
