I miss all the riots and houses burning down while we drank beers and sang drinking songs, I hear umass changed after I left, something about more police presence

There was also copious amounts of drugs that I probably shouldn't have done

There are some people who know specifically what they want to do and others that are just gambling their luck at a major that is in the general field that their interested in. I apparently just took a gamble. My first few months out of college were sort of frustrating because every job wanted you to have the degree AND experience, but having a general degree definitely made it easier to apply to more jobs and spin my degree a few different ways in my resumes and cover letters.

A lot of people think that because a diploma isn't a ticket to job entitlement it isn't worth it, but mine was about a lot more than just academics and still got me a job in my field because of what my degree was in and out of my field just for having a degree.

this was a major problem for me. every studio wants minimum 2 years experience and the degree to go with it

i lucked out and finally found one after a year of looking. then the economy tanked them so i said fuck it, lets do this HMC thang

It kinda bums me out that i didn't get to go away to college. But i still enjoy going to classes now, the discussions and the work for the most part. Alot of my classes are degree specific at this point, so most of it is stuff that i actually use at work or can apply to work situations literally the next day.

Out of high school, I didn't know what i wanted to do. I didn't want a mountain of debt. I knew i was not dedicated enough to schoolwork to go away and do well in my classes.

No. College was deffinately not the best time of my life, but i think i find myself in a better place than alot of kids that just went to school. I already have 2 years of excellent working experience in my field, an associates degree, no student loans, and all kinds of other things i have picked up along the way.

Hopefully, this means the coming years are filled with that "good time" i kind of missed out on (just cause i didn't go away to college, doesn't mean i didn't get to go visit and party my brains out). Instead of being 25 and paying a bill every month for student loans, that could very well be my mortgage payment.

I personally believe an education only gets you so far, it's your personality and work ethic that carry the majority of the way.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Currently a junior study agricultural engineering. I did a semester at Uconn at storrs and hated it. Now im going to school in NY just west of Albany and love it. So far I have had only 3 or 4 classes that didn't apply to my major 2 english classes, a psych and a math class. Oh, and bowling because apparently P.E is required in college However, I think college has taught me allot and its mostly hands on learning (diagnosing tractors, combines, construction equipment) And so far it looking like the connections that I have made here (90% sure) landed me a FANTASTIC job after college working for an equipment manufacturer testing new combines and tractors all over the world in various climates. Overall, the connections I have made here will get me way farther then the piece of paper they will give me.

IMO, not going to school if you don't know what you want to do only hold weight to a certain extent. If you don't know what you want to do and don't make moves to figure it out (which you obviously have at this point so not you specifically) you'll never get to a point where you have any ground to stand on applying for jobs. I would love to be paying rent instead of my loans right now but if i hadn't gone to school I wouldn't even be making enough to pay rent considering the jobs I want required me to go out and get my expensive piece of paper.

As far as the parties and such go, those days obviously don't end as soon as you leave college but it's definitely different afterward. It's more acceptable to go out Tuesday-Saturday, be hungover on a Thursday, and make stupid mistakes when you're away at school as opposed to trying to party hard in the real world and play if off as no big deal. Don't get me wrong, I still have nights with my friends similar to my college nights, but it'll never be the same.

See that was the thing, i did know what i wanted to do........

I wanted to be a welder/fabricator. I wanted to and still do want to build race cars or restore cars. That's actually what i've wanted for a very long time, I just didn't know where to go about it in the education respect. I looked into those tech schools and heard pretty much nothing good about them.

So i sat on it for a while. I see what you mean though. I do need to rephrase when i say i didn't know what i wanted to do, to more of I didn't know what route would be best for college education's sake.

That's the thing i do now, and i feel sometimes my job suffers. I can say I am very lucky to have the ability to have acted like that and still have a job. Over the summer, i was chronically late from being so hungover most of the week. I have matured about that, and am moving forward. But I still haven't gotten the need to be "fat, drunk, and stupid" out of my system yet. (yupp animal house reference )

College is the single most annoying and painful experience of my life. I cant wait to graduate.

I have been to community college for a few years and am now living at a 4 year college and I really like/liked both. aside from the fact that I hadn't been sick for like 4 years until this semester where I have been to the hospital 3 times. Other than the fact that diseases spread like wild fire here I really do love college and when I consider going home, except for my dog I really don't miss it all that much.

im just getting into it this year...started august, so far i realize that its absolutely NOTHING like high school, you have to pay for it all for one and most of the teachers i have are just as incompetent as my high school teachers...one of them even teaches full time at a high school and does part time college teaching, i realize that i HATE online classes and community college because not only do i not learn anything (a lecture learner am i) but i also dont enjoy the party life cause when i come home from school i just sit here and do homework/nothing. im not a very social person when it comes to school, in and out asap....hopefully the lousy associates degree im trying to attain in Computer science and technology will help me do things i enjoy....however, its looking downhill for that as well....college sucks for the most part....
