  • College - Was it the best time of your life?

From Jon saying that he didn't miss college (except for the parties) in the BMW train wreck thread. Is he the only one?

I loved college. Parties aside, I enjoyed classes, projects and just the overall atmosphere of my university. Best 4 years of my life and wouldn't give it up for the world.

i dont miss even 1 second of college as far as classes go, whether it was the college i went away to or the college i went to locally

i hate class. it doesnt help college didnt contribute even 2% of what i know and use today for my work.

maybe if i went to a college more specific for my needs, but that would have narrowed my options too much IMO.

the whole concept of the required learning courses was extremely useless to me, as well as a waste of money and time.

as you can tell, i really love it. i taught myself literally everything i know as far as the work i do for HMC, save for maybe some basics for web work, but even then going in my knowledge was beyond that of the classes offered.

i do wish i went to a different school, however, i love learning. i miss going to class and learning about my major. it seems like it went by way too fast, and i think about going back to school a lot, but i'm not sure what i'd go back for

I feel ya Will. I know I didn't get all the knowledge I wanted for my career because every company is different and a university can never 100% prepare you for what is ahead. It just isn't possible.

I see it as the greatest learning experience beyond schooling. Living on your own for the first time, making mistakes and meeting all new people in a completely new place.

While I didn't go to a College, I sometimes miss the tradeschool I went to. The people were great, the teachers were great and the atmosphere was really low key and everyone was down to earth. It's tough to compare really, the parties weren't crazy, we just had a block party once a month and most of the people from the school showed, the classes were never lecture halls, in fact we only had lecture once a Month because everything was all hands on. No math, no english, no science, you learned what you needed to learn and I've applied everything I learned from that school to what I'm doing now so it was money well spent.

I loved it, oddly enough. I had far from the "normal" college experience compared to most schools, but it was worth it.

i am sure my tune would be vastly different if i went to a video/film/design school, but at the time i had no visions of building my own company, and i wanted to just get a job in a studio. if that didnt work out, id have no credentials whatsoever to get a job anywhere else beyond that if i went to a specialty school. a more general school was the ticket, despite the suffering haha

who knows, maybe itll still help in the future. either way, required learning is nonsense

Well its a tough call for me really. I miss some of the classes (not English) but my engineering courses besides Electronics and Control were cool. Even that course had its ups. But as far as college I sure as hell didn't miss this:

But totally miss the nights like this:

Miss my good friends (Even Mike, my room mate. If you don't know who he is you havent been on here for too long)

And even the 150degree days stuck on a 600' foot ship with 750 people

                  I wouldnt change it

                      Short answer: Absolutely.

I've had too many posts on here about how I wouldn't trade college for the world so I'll keep it short. Minus a handful of bullshit classes and C's that will never affect me in the real world it definitely will pay off in the long run. I was genuinely interested in a lot of my classes, met some of my best friends, living on my own was probably the most valuable experience of my life to date, and learned more about myself than I ever thought possible. I'd go back.

The reasons you listed are the reason's I didn't go to a formal college so...

The parties do nothing for me, the classes do nothing for me, being forced to learn shit I don't want to bores the fuck out of me.
