i've had 6 d35's, some wheeled more than others. never had a problem (knock on wood, still got one right now). mind you i dont wheel as hard as others on this board. but none of mine have spontaneously combusted just taking off from a stop light. and all have been on 33's. yea they're weak. theres definetely better options out there but dont be an idiot and remember whats back there and theres a good chance you'll be fine. like everything on the internet alot of what you hear is exagerated.

my first jeep i beat on pretty hard, yj 4cyl, 33's, d35. had for 3 years, went through 5 transmission . . . not 1 d35. the rest not nearly as long but usually about a year
after my first jeep i toned it down a bit but still take them in the woods.Last edited by Arundlemcbrundle; 12-01-2010, 04:00 PM.2 tj's

I went through 3 before the 8.8 swap, one was just wheeling a powerline trail, got a little bound up and sheered the cross pin which released all the spiders. The second one i was just cruising down a paved road, went to accelerate and the pin snapped and same thing as before, and the third was having the tires spinning on dirt, then hit solid ground.God made the world in seven days, on the 7th day, he made the Le Car

ive broken 3 so far.
first one carrier bearing let go
second time the dana35 decided it no longer wanted teeth....
and for the record, doing this at night in 20 degree weather is another exceptional reason not to wheel dana35s
3rd one was chipped tooth on ring gear of grand cherokee, replaced it before any more damage occuredup to 40% off parts from advance auto parts, buy online and pick up at store for free-click here!

My first jeep (1990 XJ) - Dana 35 - didn't break
Previous 2000 XJ - C8.25 - made awful howling noises with only 67k miles - totaled before anything happened
Current 2000 XJ - Dana 35 - 103k miles - knocking on wood right now
Friend's 2003 TJ with 4.0 on 33's - Dana 35 - she drives like a moron, I'm waiting for it to break. Like I literally placed a bet with my friend.
Friend's 1989 XJ - Dana 35 - 253k miles - does burnouts all the time on 30's - hasn't broken yet
With that said, the 8.25 or D44 is definitely stronger. If you have the axle out, may as well put something better in there. I won't touch mine until it breaks because I don't have the time to swap an axle or the tools, but if it breaks I'm throwing in an 8.25-Josh
