Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think LP30's may even go to 5.89Originally posted by 4BangerTJ View PostHP d30s go to 4.88s
LP d30s go to 5.13s I believe
I don't think the gearing is the issue here. With a LP30, 5.13 gears, and 35" tires, the pinion gear becomes a weak point.Originally posted by Capt. Crunch View Postare 5.13's that bad?

precisely, properly gearing a vehicle with tires larger than 37's minimizes any weak point in the drivetrain.Originally posted by OWEN View PostTheres other ways to acheive gearing besides ring and pinions.
i know someone that runs 4.88's in a pair of dana 60's with 39's and a stock jeep 4.0. but most of their gearing comes from the atlas tcase, which takes some of the load off of the ring and pinion themselves and actually helps to make the axles stronger with that setup than if there were like 5.38s er something in those diffs.
building a tcase with 4:1 is the next step in my build, thats why i geared to 4.56 for the 35's.No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Yes but i think the point trying to be made is yes you WILL need to go deeper into the gears in the diff but you will not need to go stupidly deep. There is other places to gear it up. transmission and transfer cases being them. Also you can not beat the crawl rate of a reduction box. I wish i had a toyota so i can get the dual 4.7 lows. Also for speed you can not beat a good reduction in the transfer caseOriginally posted by Ktmracer419 View Postthe deeper the gears in the axles, the less stress on the rest of the driveline.
i have seen many more broken driveshafts and u joints with stock gears than people who wheel harder and run deep gears.
just ask mike

depends on what we are calling stupidly deep
5.13's are not that deep for 35's
i once was going to dabble with this 4:1 and doubler stuff, then realized that there have been zero times i truly wished i had lower gears. my mind might change if i were to wheel a similar jeep to mine with them, but until then i have other prioroties.

Twin sticks > dual cases (my friend with 4.7:1 yota said so)Originally posted by raze1287 View PostI wish i had a toyota so i can get the dual 4.7 lows.
Take mine for a ride, the good part is its geared like a tractor, the bad part is its geared like a tractor, although vehicle wise its a lot different from yours. I used to wheel an auto, I think if you are wheeling for thrills, nothing satisfies like a stick shift with gear.Originally posted by Ktmracer419 View Posti once was going to dabble with this 4:1 and doubler stuff, then realized that there have been zero times i truly wished i had lower gears while crawling. my mind might change if i were to wheel a similar jeep to mine with them, but until then i have other prioroties.1950 Willys Trail Rig
