i'm looking at 99-03 2wd short bed/reg cab silverado's with either the 4.8 or 5.3 for towing purposes. the plan is to tow vehicles to my storage lot with it mostly suvs, some cars, maybe a full size truck sometimes. is the short wheelbase/2wd gonna be able to handle it?

Most of the time when I do landscaping I use the 3500 6.6 turbo diesel, which, you don't know anything attached to you, but sometimes I have to use the 2500, and once I used the 1500. all three towing the same trailer, def diff between 25 and 15.

Power is the only issue I see, those motors are both high revers!
My last tow rig was a caprice with a 5.7 which has to be shorter than a shortbed truck still and my current is a grand cherokee with 4.7 which is even shorter than the caprice I believe. Some call me crazy but I think they both tow great! Def get at least the 5.3. Chevy has a hard time building motors with low end torque!
