school me on towing

i read the proper towing capacities but a lil real world experience never hurts. i towed a trailer with 2 quads and a dirtbike behind my yj once. prob about 2500 pounds (yj limits) and it was dangerous. my brakes just locked up and i was getting steered all over the place.
