  • 4 cyl vs 6 cyl

Alright so I'm looking at 1997 TJ's and most have a 4cyl. My question is... How does the 4 cyl compare to the 6 and is it worth it?

they are just as reliable as the inline 6. they go well over 200k and i have seen many around 300k without issue.

          if i were building a rockcrawler i wouldnt mind a 4 cyl

if i were building a daily driver, mild wheeler i wouldnt mind a 4 cyl

but if i were building a built rig to get to and from trails and go on expedition type trips and possibly double as a daily driver i would want the 6

I have a 6 cyl wrangler... i drove the 4 cylinder the only time it really sucked was on the road or if your trying to beat cars off the line... but your in a jeep anyways they aren't that quick, my heep does 0-60 in 10.5 with the top and doors off... not sure on the numbers for a 4 banger

the 4 banger really isnt that bad but def sucks trying to go down the high way w/35's. 5th gear is useless. and mine has 172xxx and stills runs like a champ. just dont expect to be able to pass people anywhere

i have a 98 4banger tj and i don't have much trouble getting up to 75mph. i'm pretty quick off the line but don't know the times but i have a jet chip, air raid intake, random tech high flow cat and magna flow muffler helping. she runs really good and has plenty of kick BUT i wish i had more....well, no matter what you have, you'll always want more. planning on putting in a electric fan and have a 4.0 throttle body that i'm boring out..also eventually putting in 4.88s
