  • A well tuned leaf spring setup or 4link rear.

    I have the opportunity to get a Rock Krawler parts at a discounted price and wanted ya guyz'z opinion.

    On my Project Jeep ( I guess I will Name it "The "has been" cherocar") I was going to build it for competition and possibly ( BIG on the possibility) going to build it to attempt KOH.

    I was thinking of keeping the rear leafs due to simplicity and Rock Krawlers Leafs are made by Deaver.

    If I built leafs my plan was to try to keep height at 4.5" or less by:

    1. purchasing XJ 6.5 X FACTOR PLUS LONG ARM SYSTEM
    a.however, get the 4.5 inch coils( only want 6.5 kit for shackles and longer brake line lines
    2. relocate front leaf spring mount higher to lower lift.
    3.shackle relocation.
    4.traction bar
    or...

    If I built the 4 link i would :

    1. purchase XJ 4.5 TRIPLE THREAT LONG ARM w/ REAR COIL CONVERSION
    2.done.

    Obviously i would get high quality shocks and probably run....Comp Creepies or Trepadors or Krawlers

    Opinions??

    And if you don't like rock krawler... save the hate. However, I would like to know why.

    Rear coils would be sweet.

      you need to run C4 RCRocs if you do rear coils IIRC. and doing KOH on anything but a full-out prepped vehicle vehicle is madness.

            this will be a buggy (only thing left cherokee will be floor fire wall and partial frame(or whatever ya wann call it)) and will be lexan skinned... I guess if I did leafs in the rear it will be kinda like a formula toy.

            and it will be built before an attempt @ KOH

                there would be 0 chance in hell i'd run KOH with leaves other than for laughs and to say "I tried."

                anyway, back on topic. RK leaves are great. Deavers, Nationals, Alcans, hell, even the BigOffroad ones are pretty good. Stepping away from the big-names and into the boutiques of leaves is a good thing. I can't wait til I can afford to. for 37s and a multi-purpose rig (crawling AND hi speed) I'd settle in at 5.5-6" of lift with good springs and shocks, and a nice link package up front (and rear if you want )

                        i know he didnt i was saying he has a nice 4 link coil setup in the rear and that his setup is kinda like what adam is explaining there

                              I just don't see the point in setting up your rig for real coils. If you are going to 4-link it, run coilovers or airshocks.

                              (airshocks would be cheaper)

                              You seem like you are contradicting yourself. You say if you were to run KOH there is no chance in hell you would run rear leaves. But you then mention if you were to build your rig for crawling and speed (KOH) you would utilize a nice link setup up front, and linked rear "if you wanted to". From my research I have heard a properly linked rear is much more important. I could be completely overlooking sarcasm here but that was just what i took from your post.
