Battery choice for offroading with winch and rollovers

I voted blue top. I don't remember the reason people run them over the yellows, but they are a deep cycle like the yellow top.

i run the red top, its great, never a problem, but seeing as you have a winch i think the yellow top is the right choice

Well I let my freebie AC Delco Professional Series Group 24 sit on 12V low charge for a couple full days at work and it tested OK after that... well see how it does after it sat this week. I'll probably go yellow top if I have any future problems

I dont know what else to recommend for a battery but my yellow top lasted 3 years and just died and left me stranded randomly one sunny day. Ive heard alot of people who say they have died alot and the only good ones to get are Red tops. Now that i think about it it was stupid to buy a $160 battery with a 36 mo warranty and the Sears die hard with the same specs as a yellow top (minus the gel cell feature) has a life time warranty for $100. Never heard anything bad about red tops.

a yellowtop is better suited towards winching, as its a deep cycle. deep cycle batteries are meant to be heavily drained over and over, and thats what a winch will do..

a red top is a starter battery.

also as far as i know optima batteries are designed to be vibration/rattle/shock resistant.

sounds like you know what to buy already though...id get the yellow despite the other things. i run a red, had i run a winch, id have gotten a yelllow.

yea they are vibration resistant cause they use coils and gel, not lead plates and fluid. however, red tops are also deep cycle.

I went to start the jeep today and the battery was dead again. There is nothing draining it either. It was an old battery at work that was going to get thrown out so i decided to try it

the Red tops have a longer warranty which is appealing 36mo, where as 12mo for the yellow top and the red top is cheaper

I have dual die hards in my truck, they are nice

Still am not sure, but starting it with the charger is getting old

I talked to quite a few suppliers of batteries. A friend of mine who works at Advance Auto says more Optimas are brought back than any other batter that they sell.
The battery supplier for my work said similar things.

I looked at a few other batteries
-Deka Intimidator- It is an AGM style, deep cycling battery sold at carquest... The local Carquest wants 170 for them plus tax... 36 month warranty
-Exide Orbital- Similar to Optima and similar price... Sold at Napa, prices 205 to 230 plus tax... 24 month free replacement, 48 month warranty
-Diehard Titanium- Sold at sears, supposedly the same as Odyssey, about 200 bucks, 48 month warranty

Why did I choose the NAPA Legend?
It is about 80 bucks, Maintenance free, 18 month free replacement, 36 month Warranty.

-Experience- I have had quite a few Napa batteries in my life. I always had them in my old S10. My first Napa battery went dead (due to a short) about 20 times after I had it for a couple years and I got it replaced for 18 bucks... At a different Napa store, without the receipt. The replacement one was in my truck for the next few years. I rolled it once, took the battery out, it sat for 8 months and then I put it in my Cherokee and never had a problem.
I have one in my little jeep, which was used. The jeep sits a month or more sometimes and it always starts no problem. I know the battery was under water at RC and I was able to winch multiple times with the jeep not running and it was fine. I even winched another jeep about 80 feet one time with the winch and I am confident that I can go to my shop right now and it will start right up.
-Maintenance free- Worried about acid leaking out in a rollover situation? I was too. All Interstate brand batteries have the "caps" on them, meaning you can "access" the acid in the battery. The acid will easily leak out through these caps. A maintenance free battery is sealed.. there are just two vents. But can't the acid leak out of the vents? I took my old AC delco Maintenance free battery and left it on its side and top for a good ten minuted and no acid came out. Probably not good for the battery, but thats what the warranty is for... And I can carry almost 3 Legend 75s for the retail price of an Optima Yellow Top

Worst comes to worse, I can put the battery in my car and get something different.
