  • syn winch line help

soo the end of my synthetic winch line looks like this... isn't there supposed to be a hook or something that you attach to the drum??? does anyone know how i can fix this? is there a place that can attach the right fitting to the end of this thing?

Check the drum for a bolt to attach the line to. Typically there is a crimped on end that bolts it to it to assist with the coiling of the line, but isnt rated. Some line manufacturers recommend a minimum of 8 wraps on the drum before winching. I would at least fix the end if you cant get an end crimped on to it. Take a piece or masking tape and wrap it tightly around the end (or within a short distance of the end. Cut in the middle of the tape with a good pair of scissors. Get a match out and burn the end of the rope and it wont fray and get shitty like that. Remove tape and you are good.

does it look melted? most if not all synthetic line comes with a chafe/heat gaurd for the first layer around the drum so it doesnt melt.

i wouldn't say melted, its just rusty, flatten, and frayed. the drum has the screw hole. when i unraveled this mess, it was just tightly wound around the drum. i love buying used equipment.

How did you know? I would like to know as much as i can, because this winch is still broken after new parts and a rebuild. the brake will not engage quick enough.

He wasn't the original owner. So i have no way of tapping into the lifetime warranty. then he disappeared, was out of contact. he said he has zero problems with this winch, which i find very hard to believe. I was hoping you were the first owner so i could find out what happened to this mess.
