  • School me on manual transmisions.

So After destroying 1 aw4 and having my second one starting to act fucky again I am trying to decide on what route to go.
    Ax15 route
    Pros
    Factory equipment.
    Np 231 bolts to it.
    Easy to get parts for.
    Easy to find.
    Stick.

    Cons.
    First is only 3.83.

    So
    Np 435 or t18/19
    Stupid deep first.
    Tough as nails.
    Easily adaptable to future plans.
Such a low first gear helps to ease my bad clutch skills.
Can be found with a Np205 common.

    Negatives
NP231 wont bolt up I believe.
    No over drive.
    Heavy.
    Tall.

    Nv4500
    Deep first
    Overdrive
    Np231 will bolt up.

    Cons $$$.

So as some one who is sick of auto trans any advice is welcome.

Also please note I dont want a doubler yet. I am not ready to spend that much until I need to.

you need to keep the transmission cool.

The AW4 is a really good transmission.
My transmission builder friend, says the never go, yes I've blew one but at 230K and beat the crap off road with no cooler.

Anyways if you are going to put the effort into installing an standard I would go with the NV4500 as my first choice.
Someone here is selling an adapter.
            http://neow.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=111093

If not a AX-15 would be my second choice, straight bolt in.

            T18-T19 I don't think they have overdrive.

Apparently they don't like being ran in reverse with a k2500 being pulled.
Second I am not worried about overdrive 4.56s won't be to bad with 35s according to the Novak calculator that should put my at 2800 Rpms at 65.

I have a cooler on mine but it is I even that wasn't enough to keep it cool. My goal is to make it through Oer and topless for tatas and atleast a Mabell trip. After that I'm really tearing into my pos. Plans are 3 link, going up a bit of lift, new rear springs, possibly new rear end, and stretching about 2 inches up front to help clear my oil pan.

You're the worst driver on the face of the planet if you're killing AW4's. Jussayin.

Put the right fluid in them, a sizeable cooler, and you're fine. The amount of electrical bullshit to swap to a manual is not worth it. Swap in another AW4.

I am trying hard to keep it alive as well that's the part that I hate. Reverse keeps shitting out on me.

3.83 is plenty low for first gear for a manual. X2 on the nv4500 then ax15

this...my metro with a final drive of 4.39 and all 55 fire breathing horses has a first gear ratio of 3.41....so yours would be still lower than mine.

                              Because it's fun.

And I've beat the shit out of my ax15, always with under geared axles... First gear still gets it tho.
