Well in #1 you have a valve or piston ring probmel most likely or there is a head gasket issue.
Have you pulled the valve cover off yet? I hear those heads love to crack there and half the time can be seen with just the eye.
If you are going to spend money on wad work have a shop rebuild your head, they will take the time to do it right and focus on it more than XXX place that cranks them out as fast as they can.
99k on that motor is nothing and those springs can be used again no problem, valves too.
Just put an LS in it. Easier that way.
