it would take more than just a simple swap of the 4.2 crank , cam, motorsport injectors. I've researched this subject quite a bit and from what you're talking about is maybe.. 260-275hp now if you're going to also have the head ported, roller rockers, newer style intake, header, big bore, offset grind the crank ... well yeah you'll see 300 without a problem.

You know, I once worked with a small team in my automotive class trying to get more power out of various motors, one being the Jeep 4.0.
The research wasnt easy, but we deduced that 356 HP could be made by a 4.0 simply by modding the fuel system. In addition, the modded engine saw an MPG gain of nearly 40%.
We were able to do this by introducing a fuel additive. All of our tests yielded positive results across the board, but alas, we hit a snag. The key fuel additive, Woodchuck ejaculate, worked great in the lab, as the woodchucks enjoyed humping the hell out of the filler neck on the tank in their pen, but we realized that for all intensive purposes the project would never pan out, as the woodchucks would never be tall enough to reach the gas caps on most vehicles.
We ended up scrapping the project.

300 horses is easy look at my build all I did was paint it and now I get at least 450. Sadly I doubt if get even triple digits to the crank the 4.0 ain't got no balls. Don't bother upgrading it.Jeeps don't get stuck ... they just take a nap when they are tired of being awesome

dont fix what aint broken. the 4.0 is a great motor that puts out more than enough power for our small jeeps. go test drive a stock jeep and you'll remember how much power it had before you put big tires on it. then regear yours and you'll be good to go2 tj's

my jeep has decent balls with 33's and 3.55's..
will it win a race? no but i sure as hell never have an issue dusting most people around town, that being said my jeep will turn nito a rocket ship with the 4.88's i have planned... up until 55 mphdirty30

Someone else brought this up, what do you need the power for?
I have every non whiz bang exterior bolt on mod on my 4.0. Bored TB, bigger exhaust w/ high flow cat and muffler, FIPK, Mustang injectors etc...
It made a noticeable difference, but would I do it again? I'm not sure, it is a little faster in a straight line than a bone stock XJ even with me on 33's w 4.56's but I don't think it was worth the like $1000 I have invested into the engine.
If I were to do it again I would have saved the money to do shit to my future Miata
Seriously unless you like drag racing keep your 4.0 stock, only thing I can recommend with a good conscience is the Stang injectors cause that made the biggest difference.01 XJ 3" on 33's and some new paint n stuff. Gone.
