i always wanted to do something similar, but i don't want to do all that work lol.

all i can reccomend is try to keep it as light weight as possible, without sacrificing strength

i would probably build a nice "frame" and skin it with 1/8"

that was my thought as well. an entire 3/16 skid would weigh a ton. it doesn't seem like a terrible amount of work, the framing would be the hard part. idk i'll have to take a nap under my jeep and dream up some ideas

i want to be able to land on my jeep with the force of many moons

Well, I have like a 32x48" sheet of 3/16", so I'll prolly use that to skin mine, unless someone wants to trade me the 2x6 steel for said ginormous piece of plate

then dont put on skids that are stronger than your unibody.

I took my rock sliders, cut the supports that run to the frame rail off, cut out my rockers... and welded the actual slider in its place... I think it came out mint.

                          Rockers cut out....

You can see where I cut them off my frame stiffeners and relocated up... Gained about 4" of clearance.

I saw that this weekend and thought it was a genious idea, I think im going to do it with mine. My passenger side rocker is starting to get a bit wavy and I have some Kevins Offroad sliders that I bought but havent put them on yet so that should work nicely.

Is there any good way to tie them in without altering the floor, I think I might taper the tie ins to eliminate the need for cutting my floors which I dont want to be troubled with doing. I just think if they taper they wont be very strong.

I think it should be sick. I have some JCR sliders on my rig right now. They seem pretty beefy. Should be able to handle some serious abuse.
