  • My 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ

Some of you may remember a kid on this forum "1995WranglerYJ" or something like that. He was frequently bashed newb with a fairly stock YJ back last summer or so. He put it up for sale last fall and I traded my 1992 VW bomber that I was sick of. So I ended up with a 1995 Green YJ with a 4.0, 5 speed 128k miles, with a hard top. Dana 30 front with 297's, Dana 35 rear with a spare, 3.07 gears. NP231 Case.

    When I got it

When I got the jeep it needed a few things which I did before I put it on the road.

Drivers seat: Found the matching one at Chuck and Eddies for $50
Rear Hatch: It was gone, said it had broken. I bought a cracked hardtop for $150 with a good hatch and swapped it.
Also removed the Yellow fog lights and siren installed by the previous owner
Installed all the factory sway bars and track bars.
Installed some P235/75/R15 BFG all terrains that my friend gave me.

The jeep has shot springs and shocks, with a 2" shackle lift. The plan from the beginning was to get a complete lift kit with springs and shocks.

I would like to make this a reliable safe daily driver that my girlfriend can drive, and wheel it lightly on the weekends.

Last weekend I picked up this gem for $500. It was a kids project, but it needed more than he had planned. It has a brand new Rough Country 4" lift (half of the parts still not yet installed) and axles with 4.10 gears. I wanted to go with 4.10s to make it more drivable with bigger tires. Some dana 44s will be a future mod, but these will get me on the beach in Cape Cod this summer!

I am going to refurbish the axles (going to run the rear for now, and put the 297 shafts in the front), swap over the suspension and run 33's or 35's.

Looks like it will be a great little dd. Every since my friend had his in high school and his newer one now, I've always had a soft spot for YJs. Are those the stock seats in the parts one?

I had a friend in high school with a YJ, 4" lift and 32s. I was a fan of jeeps from the first time I rode in it.

I think the seats are stockers but I don't know. The are bolted to stock brackets.

Yea after building my wheeling jeep from the frame up, I need something a little simpler. I am gathering parts for another frame up flatfender build, but I probably won't start that until next year or something like that. At least this one doesn't need to go on a trailer and has a back seat.

I have 5 right now... way too many!

My parents live in Wellfleet and also have a cottage in Provincetown. I want to take it out on the beach by Race point this summer when I go up there. I went in my friends Jeep last year, it was great! I was going to tow my big Jeep up there to do this but just seems like too much effort... plus I would want to be launching it off dunes and shit, I don't think they like that!

The tub is in ok shape, I think my friend wants it... the chassis is in shitty shape, already been fixed once. You are welcome to it if he doesnt want to take it with the tub. I'll be putting anything I don't use off of it for sale soon.

So, I pretty much have been driving this every day that it doesn't rain a lot and its a black and very reliable. The only problem I had was the clutch wasn't always disengaging, but a few pumps of the clutch pedal and it would. I figured it was something wrong with the hyd clutch master or slave so I ordered a whole new assembly. When I took the old one off, there was brake fluid leaking from the rear of the master. No problems since!

I am finally starting to work towards getting the lift and axles in. Someone had messed with the spring perches on my parts jeep front Dana 30, so I bought another one for dirt cheap with 4.10s and a clean housing

I figure it will provide some extra parts as well.

I finally pulled the axle and springs out of the parts jeep. I am freshening up the front with some new parts, not so much the rear (not worth it). Going to try to have them in next week, the biggest issue is I need to find/buy tires to run with the 4.10s.

Looks like someone had thought about going spring-over with it and cut the perches off, welded them on the top of the axle then decided not to go spring-over and cut them off and welded them back on the axle, doing a shitty job. I just want to bolt and go for once in my life.

Owen since that axle is 2 piece on the passenger side, take the vaccum can off and push the fork over seal the whole where the vac line would go and it;s done, those vacs systems always fail and are a bullshit setup.

The jeep is the second vehicle I own with this system, I have yet to have it fail. If it does, I will probably go to a cable, I don't need the front driveshaft spinning all the time.

What is the deal with unit bearings? Are they failure prone? The ones in it seem fine...new Timkins are $93 on Rock Auto. I zipped the 3 bolts holding each one in and they came out fine, I might just never seize the bolts and put them back in, unless there is a good reason to drop $200 on new unit bearings.
