As far as the rear spare tire goes, they sell a plate that raises and pushed out the stock spare tire mount so it will clear the rear bumper. Alot of weight for the stock rear gate but cheaper then a separate swing out tire carrier/bumper. Unless you build a bumper with swing out on it. The mount is a little pricey though.

YJs got the full cage in 92.

ive heard some bad stuff about that one from quadratec. apparently the added leverage rips the mount from the tailgate. it could work though for the size tire you have

Yes I agree, the stock one is only 1/8" thick or so. I want to put a bike rack on the spare tire carrier as well, so I don't want to take any chances and have my Kona get wrecked. Probably will just pny up for the Rugged Ridge one, maybe somewhere else has it for less.

Eventually the plan, I want to bend up a nice bumper for it. I don't think I will have time before vacation to Cape Cod in 3 weeks!

I just got a thule bike rack that goes in the hitch and it seems to work pretty well. I think it was only like a hundred bucks and would take that added weight off of your spare

Haven't updated in a while but have done a few things to it.

I bought a used bikini/duster/jammer setup. I dug out the the stuff from the previous owner and found the soft top stuff to put on the duster.

I wound up getting the rugged ridge tire carrier. It is pretty nice, but I want to put some spacers on the rubber "tire bumpstops" because now the spare doesnt sit against them and it seems to jiggle a little as a result.

I also wound up getting a Saris B.A.R. rack for the mountain bikes. It is pretty nice however, it puts a lot of stress on the tailgate. I might buy the parts to conver it to a hitch mount, once I build a rear bumper. For now I run straps from the B.A.R. to the roll bar to secure it. I recently took the jeep to Cape Cod for vacation. Drove up with a full load of gear and bikes, did a few days of oversanding and a little biking... no issues and had a great time!

Gonna be taking this wheeling a lot this fall and not my wheeling jeep, as it has a broken transfer case and some other issues that are going to take a while to fix.. so I built a winch mount and grabbed the REP 9000 off my stock flatfender (going to put a 8274 on it)

                        brainstorming...

Start... I wanted something simple, low-profile, and bolt on

Bent up some tube to protect the winch... its been a while

Fitted some plate to mount the fairlead

Some booger welds courtesy of my 1984 Hobart

I also decided to cut up my stock bumper to make it look like I wheel

Mounted and wired the control box under the hood on the passenger inner fender.

Tighened everything and installed the plate so stay legal. All I want to do now is add a D ring somewhere for getting towed/snatching. But its good for now

Well I have been driving the crap out of this thing and finally have wheeled it a little. It wheels ok, it feels kinda bulky compared to my wheeling jeep. A rear locker would help it a lot but I am hesitant to put something in, as I am going to dd it this winter... we'll see.

I just ordered the E brake cables from ECGS, going to throw them in and hopefully make it up to the Rally!
