for the most part i definitely get the idea of the cross bar, i had done a lot of engine cage research/looking when we were making DM

what i had come across at the time that i liked

tied to the bump can in the same location as mine now, and the frame like andy said

you really should have a cross bar going across cause if you were to lay it over on the front end there would be nothing keeping the front of the bars to bend inward, possibly causing more damage then preventing. i got to see if i can find a picture of my old race car. it had a removable bar by welding a pice of tube inside the main tubes and a nut sert of good size into the cross bar. this allows you to have a sturdy piece of cross bracing but if you have to remove it its not a big deal two bolts and its out. p.s. i know i missed a shit ton of commas in that lol.

bar across the engine would be cool too
I think number 1 offers more protection to the engine in the event of any actual mishap in which the cage sees its intended use. Keep in mind that you need to leave clearance to remove everything in the engine bay, JIC.

As to the crossbar... I'd have to explain the idea going through my head but it involves making it removable but stable.

    Well, they suck donkey balls.

    Just sayin.

See if theres enough room to do #2, but bend the fender bars down behind the headlights with a 90* bend and connect to the frame. then do a bar from the apex of one bend to the other across the engine bay, mirroring at the front of the bay the one that spans the A-pillars. Gusset accordingly.

    my $.02
