Okay, located all of the major drivetrain components on the cheap.
I found a carbed small block chevy V8 in good running condition for $300 and a 4wd 700R4, torque converter, and chevy NP 241 transfercase in good running condition for $350. I am picking all this stuff up this weekend, so I will post some pics when that happens, and then some major progress can happen.
The NP241 requires a SYE so that adds $340 to the total cost, unless someone here can find one cheaper than this: http://www.jbconversions.com/pages/p...c_std_sye.html
Also going to clock that bitch up for a flat belly which will require some fun tranny tunnel mods. Here is the clocking ring from great lakes off road for $61: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...+clocking+ring
I would use the NP205, but after reading info from all sorts of places, it appears that there is a clearance issue running a 205 directly behind a 700R4 due to the rectangular transmission pan. So rather than fuck around with that BS again, I will bolt up the 241 with the SYE and have no front driveshaft clearance issues.
