Okay, located all of the major drivetrain components on the cheap.

I found a carbed small block chevy V8 in good running condition for $300 and a 4wd 700R4, torque converter, and chevy NP 241 transfercase in good running condition for $350. I am picking all this stuff up this weekend, so I will post some pics when that happens, and then some major progress can happen.

The NP241 requires a SYE so that adds $340 to the total cost, unless someone here can find one cheaper than this: http://www.jbconversions.com/pages/p...c_std_sye.html

Also going to clock that bitch up for a flat belly which will require some fun tranny tunnel mods. Here is the clocking ring from great lakes off road for $61: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...+clocking+ring

I would use the NP205, but after reading info from all sorts of places, it appears that there is a clearance issue running a 205 directly behind a 700R4 due to the rectangular transmission pan. So rather than fuck around with that BS again, I will bolt up the 241 with the SYE and have no front driveshaft clearance issues.

Picked up the small block chevy from steve in LI with RJ tonight. Shit looks good, it has a quadrajet carb and apparently only has approx. 80k miles on it. I think it only needs a simple tune up, i.e. plugs, wires, rotor, cap, belt. I also need to scrounge up a flexplate and starter, so if anyone has that shit lying around, let me know, otherwise I'll grab it from the guy who has the tranny and t-case.

So, after I pick up the tranny and t-case on Sunday, we should be able to make some major progress and figure out how to fit this thing into the Toyota. I refuse to body lift my truck as it's already tall enough and I hate body lifts, so we are probably looking at "massaging" the tranny tunnel and firewall.

Picked up the tranny and t-case from GM truck heaven today.

Tranny came with torque converter and lower cover, so thats some money I can spend elsewhere. Still need to get the SYE and clocking ring for the 241. All together, the motor, tranny, and t-case cost me 700 bucks...not too bad.

I have Monday and Tuesday off from work b/c my boss is a fucking douchebag, so I'm rolling down to RJ's to get this shit cleaned up and bolted together so we can begin trying to fit it into the Toyota.

Just a long list of stuff that needs to be done and parts I can't really afford. It's not nearly complete, and I'll add/remove/change things as needed to manage this project towards completion.

                            Immediate To Do List:

Drill out broken exhaust manifold bolts

Change oil pan and valve cover gaskets

Clean/paint valve covers and intake manifold

Mock up radiator and electric fan to ensure adequate clearance

Fabricate new tunnel and firewall out of 16 ga. sheet metal using a cardboard template

                            Figure out carburetor situation

                            Fabricate cross member

                            Install clocking ring and SYE

Find a shifter for the NP 241

So toady i decided to get some work done on it.

Put motor tranny and tcase together

Then i got to thinking holy shit man this is tall my engine crane will never be able to lift it in there so i called this in

After some awesome maneuvering by the helo operator we managed to get it in. To find out i need to cut the firewall back almost 3"

then i was looking how it sat flat the oil pan had good clearance, the tranny pan sat nice, but the transfer case sat about 5" below the frame so its definitely needs the clocking ring

with it in there i started looking at clearances i have about 3" on each side of the block to snake the exhaust in, there is about 8 inches to the hood with the carb off

Now i wait for some one to buy some steel and sheet metal to start making cross members and fire wall.
