Do i think its worth it to spend 500 bucks on a system like that for your jeep... its up to you, if it saves your rig one day i'm sure you'd be pretty happy.
I'm pretty sure the onboard systems are there to buy time to save someones life, not the rig.

If you find yourself in a situation like above with a fuel fire, I don't think the onboard system is going to do much good as far as the rig is concerned.

i guess it all depends on the severity of the initial fire, but more or less the main goal is to suppress the fire long enough to give the driver enough time to get out.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

I would still say go with a Halo system push the button and run no opening hoods to fight the fire etc.

Funny too because KOH rules only consider fuel as flammable per the fire wall rules.

although this fire wasn't started via the buggy, i felt like i should post it up...

when i was out at KOH i got to work with king shocks for a day and i worked with travis carpenters fiance steph...she posted this on her FB this morning:

"Trav, I and his parents, have just had a piece of our lives taken away. 2:30 this morning the garage was on fire and burned down. Travs buggy, his dads jeep, corvette, and 32 chevy all gone. We are all ok and we saved the house."

          these were the pics:

according to travis is was an electrical outlet that started the fire...pretty awful if you ask me

Just an FYI for anyone looking for extinguishers, I just got in contact the fire specialist at ADS and I asked him about the extinguisher that Will was originally asking about but he said this company

                http://www.amerex-fire.com/products/product/27

is the equavilent and has better pricing. Just thought I'd share for anyone thats looking around

FWIW, the ones i linked were liquefied gas extinguishers (they dont spray and leave a nasty powder chemical mess inside a vehicle or damage surfaces), those ones in the amerex link are standard dry chemical extinguishers....aka the big white powder jobs...something to consider. they both go after the same kind of fires, but not with the same method/agent or end result

yeah, this is the response i got from the guy

                    "
These extinguishers are really designed for computers, copy machines, etc. They are very expensive to use on a vehicle. The ABC Chemical type of extinguisher is recommended for vehicle applications. That is what they carry on the fire trucks… they are less expensive, easy to operate, and work as good or better on the vehicle. If it is a gasoline spill from the vehicle, the Halotron will not work, and the ABC will."

so if anyones interested in anything lemme know <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

he may wanna read up. (unless i mis understand whats being said?)

halguard extinguishers (the ones i linked) are ABC and are super effective at that (vehicle fire is gonna be primarily B), and are specifically made for vehicles/aircraft, not just general use, thats why polyperformance sells them

the fire company uses dry chemical ABCs because theyre cost effective and their only goal (understandably) is to put out a fire in most environments (which they do do for sure..), not necessarily save you clean up time/after effects/damage of a dry chemical mess

also, whats considered "very expensive" to use on a vehicle? my cherokee that has years worth of work and probably 10,000 dollars worth of BS throughout it vs a 200-300 dollar extinguisher to save it from a total burndown? also something to consider

                        thats what i had

no idea why the fuel line decided to dump 50 psi of fuel on my exhaust at the same exact time 4 connecting rods left the engine, but it scared the fuck out of me

took every ounce of a 5lb dry abc to put out the entire fire. glad i had the other on hand in case of a flare up

flames were engulfing a third of the engine bay and were about 5 feet high.

i didnt get into detail explaining it to him that it was for offroad vehciles. he is the fire specialist, so its honestly the last thing hes thinking. he probably thinks im pricing it for the fire cheifs cars or something. i took the link you put up, which wasnt for the company that made that extinguisher so i took went to the mfgs webpage and linked him to that and only said automobiles.
