I went a few years ago and it made for a great weekend. We had so much fun. Great views and if you like to hike a little there are side trails everywhere if you look. I'd say def do it
93 xj blue with a hint of tree bark - Dead
90 xj pos blue renix - Gone
95 xj green - Soon to be 3", 33's, ford 9", JCR stage II sliders, some skids
Been up it a few times, both by foot and by car. It's as good a peak you're going to get on the east coast and is worth the trip if you haven't been up any bigger mountains. It definitely doesn't take all day to drive though.
The weather up there will be getting a bit iffy this time of year so if you do hike it make sure you go prepared for the worst and bail out at the first sign of trouble. I had a few friends who hiked up Tuckerman and nearly froze on the way back down because a blizzard popped up out of nowhere... in July.

i want to go in the dead of winter. we can call it my training for everest
Been there, done that. January 4, 2006. I got the one sunny day all winter but it was still cold.
If you really want to train for Everest EMS does their mountaineering school up on Washington. They loan you most of the technical gear so you don't have to buy it right away, and they teach you all the basics including ropework.
