i'll take premiere pro over avid any day of the week. i did all but one of my video projects in premiere on my laptop isntead of using the avid machines at school.

im not backing avid, i just don't know of anyone that went through school editing and only used their laptops. that's impressive.

I know when i am editing I like to have a dedicated computer w/o my other things on it.

my laptop is fully capable of editing SD on premiere.. its a core duo 1.66, 2gb ram, 128mb video card, running xp. i just kill all my other processes when i edit video so its smoother.

ill be editing in HD next semester and im gonna have to use avid since the workstations are beast mode and my laptop will cry editing HD video.

when I was at Counteproductions our old editing suite would have to be shut down like 4 times a day cause it would get so bogged down with hd video. but it had really good hard drives

Woah did someone just have a filmmaking debate without me?

I'd take both FCP and PrPro over Avid, and PrPro ovr FCP.

Avid is one of the most confusing programs, but coming from editing real film, like touching film. I guess its easy, but its no fun for me.

But its def Industry standard, not many films are being edited with FCP

Avid has done:
The Dark Knight
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
Transformers 1 and 2
Basically any big movie (Besides Coen Bros, they love them some FCP)


But thenagain FCP has:
Letter to iwo Jima,
Benjamin Button
Xfiles movie
300
Zodiac


Though I still like Adobe integration

Heck Speilberg still shoots on film and loves editing with film reels

I find it hard to take him seriously anymore, when talking about technology.
