Maybe this is just common knowledge, but are things always designed to break just about the time your warranty runs out? Especially with electronics?

I should probably consider myself lucky with this one because it could have turned out a lot worse. After having a series of thunderstorms last night, i come back to my room after class only to find that my Samsung 37" LCD wont turn on. The little red light indicating that it had power was lit but when i would press the power on button the light would flash, then remain solid and nothing would happen.

I bought the TV June 2nd of last year and the warranty is good for 12 months, which is in 3 days. I logged into my samsung account and it said my warranty was still valid so i requested service and they sent me to the nearest samsung repair store for no charge. Should have it back in 7-10 business days.

I cant even imagine how much it would have cost me to get it fixed if this had happened 4 days from now. Especially since i'm at school and i havent got an extra dollar to spare.

Now that i think of it my xbox did the same thing to me. It was coming down to the last few day on that warranty and BAM red ring of death.

    wtf?

On my third Dell computer... The prev 2 broke a couple months after the warranty ended.

On my second iPod... The prev 1 broke a couple months after the warranty ended.

somethings were just built poorly (xbox 360s) they used bad solder so a huge number of them failed.
but yes most things have an extremely short lifespan. why should an electronics company build something to last 30years when in 6months something will be far superior to it?

i just fixed my 360 the other day, it's a crappy thermal paste they use that ends up melting off the processor

my HD went bad on my mac last week. took it too the apple store, they put in a new one free of charge and got it back 2 days later. they also gave me all new keys, mouse, and plastic surrounding them. Although I do have to pay for AppleCare it has been worth it now. Ive had the computer since august 06 without a problem till now

yeah I broke my ipod right before my warranty was up. On each Ipod you get after that you have an additional 30 day warranty. One of my friends purposely broke his ipod every 20-25 days for like 8 months so he'd always have a new one. One day he goes in and they were like "oh so this is your 7th ipod sir?" I don't really see his logic behind this plan. He's a little special.

Time to invest in a better surge supressor (actually rated for load and not the $5-10 things at the store) or a UPS with voltage regulation.

                      Got to protect those investments

Pretty sure they were selling warranties through a 3rd party during liquidation.

I bought a nice belkin surge protector the day i bought my tv, I paid like $65 or something for it. You can tell me if this isnt enough but its Maximum Spike Current is 72,0000A H-N 24,000A, H-G 24,000A, N-G 24,000, cant seem to find its spike voltage. It also comes with Lifetime Product and $100,000 Connected Equipment Warranty. I have had my TV plugged into it 24/7. Along with my MacMini my 360 and my subwoofer and speakers. Green light is still on the surge protector and everything else thats been plugged into it is fine.
