Mine was 9000 before discounts. Came out to like 6500 after discounts then like 7800 with financing. Snap on wanted 14000 for the same size box. Matco uses double wall 16 gauge steel while snap on uses single wall 16 gauge steel. True story. No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

And Dizzy i can still do things with my tools you'll never be able to do.... Flash Gordon.
And as for the things are expensive argument:
Ferrari 458 -$270k vs. Kia Forte- $22k : makes perfect sense
PRS guitar- $4k vs. Squier Strat $300 : makes perfect sense
Snap on toolbox- $15k vs. Craftsman ball bearing box- $800 : I can't make that make sense.......
I get it handmade quality, but unless the hinges are engineered from cutting edge alloys, the rivets are made from solid titanium, and the wheels use infintely impregnated bearings in carbor fiber housings; then i'm with Will on this one. And simply don't get it.Last edited by Zullock Holmes; 01-08-2013, 12:16 AM.No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

I will say that you would be hard pressed to find a tool box that is able to hold hundreds of pounds in an open drawer with no ill effects to the box. That being said, the prices of the boxes are retarded. If you really have to have one, you can pick one up off the Craigs-pot for like a third the cost of a new one.1993 XJ sport 3.5" rustys 33" MTZ's armored.

I have broken many a cheap tool box. It's not hard for me to justify the cost of a box that will last me forever.
My top drawer weighs like 250-300 lbs. Not every box can hold that reliably.
My box is the same as dizzys, minus his add on top drawer, but I have a side cabinet. It was about the same price and its my home box. He is right though, it is easier to justify an expensive box when its holding 25-30k of my tools.
Oh and Will, I'm not 100% on what it is, but the markup on a box is pretty good. I'd guess at least 30% There isn't a dealer not making money on a box. Mine sold my trade in for less than he gave me. He already made his money.
That's how they afford to give you jackets and tool organizers etc.Dan.

My box is financed directly through Matco. Not my Matco dealer. I have a 4s triple bay with an additional drawer added on the top. It wasn't 15k Bryan's was and he can legit lay down in the top cabinet.Dizz dizz go sleep sleep

Also on another note. I have a TON of snap on stuff. They are all about the same really. I usually buy from the dealer I like the most. My Matco dealer (who is Dizzys' also) is great. He gets me what I want with no questions. So I buy tools from him. If he was a snap on dealer I would be buying snap on tools, and I probably would have bought a snap on box. I am glad however I bought the Matco, after owning both I like the Matco better, but a Snapon would have suited my needs just the same.Dan.

I spent 3k on my snap on. Stainless top, chrome accents etc. it's a nice box. Bought it used in like new condition. New is probably 6500 with all the extras. I bought it from an independent tool guy who bought it back on trade in from one of te guys I used to work with. That's 3k including tax and no interest. I did him a favor by moving it 10 feet down on the wall instead of him having to store it or carry it around in his truck. I haven't bought tools from anyone but him in the past 2 years.
97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

The only reason the snap did worse is beacuse of that t configuration on the matco. Big whoop, if you want a good tool box with smooth drawers get something like an old Kennedy, you will find that you 50 year old tool box has better thicker metal and smoother actions than most any new box,
That is only if you have the time and energy to restore a tool box
