x2 on this....i believe we had a discussion about this over the weekend.
banning guns does nothing but take them away from the hands of people who actually use/enjoy them...the thing that pisses me off the most is that no one ever hears the awesome stories about how a firearm saved a life or stopped a potential crime. always the slaughtering that come out into the media. no one remembers the 71 year old guy in florida (other than on here im sure) i had the argument on facebook with a girl i used to go to high school with. she said something to the effect that this tragedy was the reason we need more gun control. after arguing a bit and proving my point in concrete (WITH that video) all of the comments regarding a political argument were removed...as Nicole said, someone with a firearm there could very well have saved all of those kids.
This. Someone was arguing on my mothers facebook yesterday about how guns never saved anyone. So I did some quick research and posted a bunch of stories that I found on pirate that were posted in the last couple of days. The reality these stories never make it to the headlines because they dont go that far.

they cant ban a rifle....
dont see them banning pistols....
exactly. If its not one, it will just be another. No one goes, hmmm I guess I wont shoot up all these people because I dont have an AR, this shotgun just wont due.
So, is there a defenition of assualt rifle? The definition varies from state to state. In free states, assault weapons are called rifles and have the same definition, in CT an assault weapon is a rifle with a collapsible stock, bayonet lug, pistol grip, a threaded barrel and the ability to take a detachable box magazine. 'Assault weapons' are actually banned in CT by definition, the shooter didn't use an assault weapon, he used a post ban sporter AR15 style rifle by definition of the state. Thee is also a very specific list of guns you cannot own in this state. The rifle he used was not on that ban list but I'd bet you money it was a legal post ban rifle.
I would imagine that would be a full auto gun? Nope. Full auto firearms have their own category, machine guns.
Full auto guns are illegal, correct? Incorrect. Send $200 to the government and find yourself a transferable machine gun for a reasonable price, say $7000+, and you can legally own a machine gun.
or is it everything including AR's n semi auto guns like that? Once again, the laws and definitions change from state to state.
But arent AR's n wutnot just glorified rifles that look cool and (to me) are more of a recreation gun? Yes. He could have done just as much damage with a Ruger Mini14 with a 30 round magazine and a wood sporter stock. It's still a gun, and it still shoots bullets but it isn't black nor used by the military.
So whats the issue? Ban AR's so people just use pistols or thier hunting rifles instead? Mental stability is the issue but no one can seem to remember the failed prohibition laws and the enormously futile 'War on Drugs' so we'll constantly go after the objects involved rather than solving the real issue.
they cant ban a rifle....
dont see them banning pistols.... Pistol aren't assault weapons, politicians only care about assault weapons. Once those are banned, they'll go after handguns and revolvers.
Read.
For those saying you should just get rid of gun, let me know how you'd be able to do it. Tell me. Once company made 2 million guns last year and sold every single one of them. Guns aren't going anywhere.

because people wont connect when the bad guy gets killed. when its innocent victims (especially young children) the news is going to feed off of emotion. really sad. i watched the news for 3 minutes last night and started hysterically crying because they showed the photos of the kids. nobody is going to cry when you show a photo of a bad guy.

it has been noted that his mother was very much into guns and he used her guns in this crime. did she have them locked up? or were they accessible to him? if they were locked up, did she give him the combination to open it?
people will always find a way to get their hands on any kind of weapon that they want. banning them won't do anything.
The point I was getting at was that these secnarios are not the same. To me, there is a big difference between planning out an attack and finding a way to source whatever they want (legal or illegal) vs the crazy kid that just snaps and knows the combination to his parent's gun vault. One can be somewhat preventable, the other is absolutely not.
I can get a big clip for anything and whether it be an AR or AK or savage .22. They all shoot. They are all capable of the same result.
is what I was wondering and what I sort of suspected. In cases like this, I don't see how banning certain guns would make much difference. This is just someone gun-illiterate thinking out loud I guess...

edit: Scratch that. i read your reply wrong....
thought you were implying that i have the same moron mentality of anit gun people because i dont knwo what AR-15 stands for.....and being serious that it stood for assualt rife - 15 rounds.....
just googled and now i feel even more retarded lololol
BWAHAHAHA oh the confusion level of my comment....perfect execution!
one of the other topics that bugs me a LOT is lately im hearing "Give up your guns" how and who the fuck is that going to work....as phil stated 2 million guns from one company last year?! how the hell do they plan on confiscating that many firearms.
no one i have argued with has had a solution to the scenario I presented, which is just the most basic level of self defense.
someone breaks in your house, intends to shoot you to take your belongings. Guns are banned, you cannot defend yourself, however the shooter has a gun because laws dont apply to someone not willing to follow them. Solution in a world where guns are straight banned?
People will ban "assault weapons" because it sounds scary, meanwhile an assault weapon was not even used in this tragedy by many definitions, or by logic. As phil said, many guns can fill the same void as "assault weapons" that arent black, but do the exact same thing.
and look at this fun graphic...who knew that handguns worked like machine guns...5 rounds a second?! oh my goodness these are killing machines that only the military should own!! Worded to vilify gun enthusiasts. The media goes unchecked at all times.
Gunman's mother, a gun enthusiast, was his first victim.

both of those scenarios, in my opinion, have someone who is not right in the head.
it would be one thing if he took his mother's gun, shot himself, or even his mother and him, but to go to the school afterwards and kill 26 people. that's just fucked up.

There are no plans to go to house to house confiscating weapons because it would cost the lives of thousands of police officers nation wide.
Your average gun owner won't go out and kill someone, but there is a small percentage of people that will not give up their firearms willingly to the government.
Australia's gun ban turn in program failed miserably...because the criminals never went and voluntarily turned their guns in, so crime skyrocketed almost 500%.

like ive been saying possibly too much lately...."from my cold...dead fingers."
i'm not a gun person, but anyone with a rational thought in their fucking head can understand that guns don't kill people, people kill people. guns may make it easier, but guess what? if someone wants to kill someone they can do it with anything. gonna ban pillows because you can choke a motherfucker with them?

i think the biggest issue is guns are getting into the hands of the wrong people.
but there is NOOOOOOOO way to stop that.
Is tougher background checks needed before you can purchase a AR?
I mean, it is pretty damn easy to get one, correct? something like put money down and wait 2 weeks? maybe some sort of classes and training?
but that still wont solve the mental stability issue.
any crazy person can get a pistol permit. I found that out a few weeks ago when i saw someone i know that shouldnt have any weapon, passing around his new dessert eagle... THEN TELLING US THAT HE IS TEACHING CLASSES!!!......kinda worried me when he started to load a mag for no apperent reason other to show off....
Not cool and i honestly was contemplating calling the law. not my buisness though.....
the way i see it is i need to get eduacted ASAP and stock up. something is going to happen very soon.
