Exactly. Its just sad so many people believe only what they see on the news and live so sheltered to think no other crime with guns exists.
My wife said they were showing pics of the children on the news. I didnt even try to watch. Too much.

this is exactly the problem. those who are for gun control right now are those who are watching the news and not opening their eyes to realize that guns have protected an endless amount of people who were put in danger. whether it is a home owner, business owner, or just someone who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. they are just seeing these innocent people who have been killed and jumping on the band wagon believing that if guns were banned this wouldnt have happened.

No because an AR is not any more dangerous than any other gun that is a rifle and semi automatic. All guns are lethal, all guns are deadly in the hands of the wrong person.

Adam Lanza didnt even buy the gun...IN FACT he was denied the purchase of a firearm earlier due to gun laws in place, in which he then found other means to acquire one. This alone is an exact example as to why gun laws do not prevent this. I wish this was being used as an example more so...but that isnt in the news' interests.

I am not a gun owner and have no interest in guns, but it's clear to me gun control is not the answer. What is?
So I've gone full circle and am back here now.

People that do this are unquestionably fucked in the head and need help. Where does this start?

I also am still wondering why things like this *appear* to be happening at an increasing rate. I use appear cautiously because, as Will pointed out, the media is also not the same that is was in previous decades. But is that all this really is?

              Yep.

Adam Lanza, the suspect in the suburban Connecticut elementary school shooting rampage, tried to purchase a "long gun" rifle from a local shop but was turned away because he did not want to wait for the required 14-day background check, law enforcement sources said Saturday.

I agree with Will. Look at how fast it spread. If you didnt have internet you woul dhave had to wait to get home to see it on the news. Now its on face boot, twitter, forums, live news feeds online, its pumped in through every available outlet. So much more than ever possible in the past

News spreads fast these days, but is that what is CAUSING this to happen more?

How do you control THAT? I'm guessing CNN, Fox News and every other 24 hour news station that broadcasts 23.5hrs of speculation a day is going to hold onto their right to free speech just as strongly as gun holders will cling to the right to bear arms.

I don't feel like I have made one single solution oriented post in this thread, but there are a lot more questions than answers popping into my head right now.

exactly how i feel. its hard to make sense of a situation like this, especially when there are still so many questions out there to be answered

Thats because in reality there is no real solution. There will always be crazy people, and whether it be with guns or anything else there will always be violent crimes committed against others. This particular instance just happens to be one of the worst cases.
I guess also that the availability for the news to spread helps to prompt these psychos into to doing these things. They want their 15 minutes of fame and know they are going to get it. So its not just that the news spreads fast and has more outlets to be seen, but also these people are taking advantage of that for everyone to know who they are.

Arguably on some level. Some sicko probably watched as pictures/news/names spread on Facebook and the news and thought they could be the next shooter celeb. We create stars out of these people. Not stars in the traditional sense, but I am sure you get what I mean.

You can attain fame (infamy) with ease. Even more so then fame, a kid who was bullied or an "outcast" or odd or whatever you wanna call it, can cause a national change, he can alter laws, have the president speak about him, so on.

It is hard to ignore this as a possible/likely contributor to many public shootings, primarily school ones. The media is one of the biggest enablers we have, and as long as they essentially exist as a business, not an actual reporting agency in a pure sense, then this will continue.

pretty sure they determined there was no evidence this ever happened.

                              • Best I can tell is it "cant be confirmed" due to it being from "members of the public" and not a police officer that witnessed it.
