    • After hiking Mount Washburn on September 3rd my parents and sister wanted to see the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

The canyon is around 25 miles long, between 800 to 1200 feet deep and between 1/4 of a mile to 3/4 of a mile wide.

The lower falls is 308 feet high, which is over twice as high as Niagara Falls.
The upper falls is 109 feet high.

Our first stop was Artist Point, which is at end of the South Rim Drive 4 miles south of where I live.

View of the lower falls from Artist Point.

View of the lower falls a feet hundred feet away from Artist Point.

Our second stop was Uncle Tom's Point, which is on the South Rim Drive 3 miles south of where I live.

                • After viewing the canyon we drove 18 miles south to the Lake Yellowstone hotel for my Dad's 65th birthday dinner.

Took these 3 pictures of the summit of Mount Washburn from Hayden Valley, which is between canyon and lake.

                          • I could probably use a DSLR camera, but the point and shoot Canon I have is 10X better than my old one.

Also..... views of the canyon are better in the morning with the sun behind you and there are still A LOT of wildfires going on, which creates a terrible haze.

                            • I left Canyon Village, WY around 300pm on September 6th to hike Elephant Back trail near Yellowstone Lake.

Yellowstone Lake (elevation 7,732 feet) is the largest body of water in Yellowstone National Park. It is the largest lake over 7,000 feet in North America.

The lake is 136 square miles. For some comparison..... Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut, which is 8.4 square miles.

The Elephant Back trailhead (elevation 7,800) is around 17 miles south of Canyon Village where I live. Left around 345pm.

.5 a mile into the trail.

1 mile into the trail..... we went left & came back down the right.

1.5 miles into the trail heading upwards.

                              • 2 miles into the trail we reached the "top" after 800 feet of elevation gain.

Pictures below are elevation 8,500 feet.
