I judge each individual model, but have a soft spot for Chevrolet, Jeep, and the typical german cars (BMW, Volkswagen/Audi). Some cars i'd love to own are an s2000, r32, b6 s4, e36 or e46 M3, silverado ss, etc.

I grew up with my father driving a '84 Chevy Custom Deluxe that he was used as a work truck as well as my grandfather having a late 70s/ early 80s one so Chevy became a loyal brand in my family. My cousin wouldn't even look at a Ram in '06 despite them having 0% financing(idiot) and wound up with his 2500HD.

As far as Jeeps, my older cousin picked up a 85 CJ-7 in high school that he fully restored over the years and then sold right before i turned 16 that i'm still bitter about I always wanted a wrangler but bought the Cherokee since my father refused to co-sign a wrangler.

I got my love of BMWs from my uncle. After his Saab 900 restoration was murdered by a 4-5ft diameter tree, he picked up an 85 535i and worked on restoring that and I was lucky enough to receive a free 528e of the same year. Those cars drove so nice for such an old vehicle and even my mechanic who specialized in Euros daily drove one despite owning a few others.

Handful of Cummin's rolling around with 500k+.

As for those lovely 6.2 and 6.5 Detroit's that Chevy used in the 90's.... I saw first hand, my dad's 6.5 send a rod through the pan at 93K and crack a block with 57K on the new motor. All highway truck that got 50k miles put on it a year. Great truck, minus the motor, trans and interior...

A brand is not about the cars themselves but the people behind that company designing them. Every company has its share of good and bad generations which is why there is no reason to discriminate. People are people no matter what country they come from so why should a japanese car be different than an american car? Anyway i try to look at each model specifically or at what the company is doing at that time
        I drive a Datsun

Its just getting the back story to people's opinions, I found a lot of them interesting, even dizzy's despite his never-ending critique of saab.

Thanks for the internet advice, maybe you can start some threads that get people to post on the forum, because if you haven't noticed, its been a slow couple of days.

I understand that everyone has their own tastes, but its interesting to see why they have those tastes.
This thread did go remarkably well, all things considered.

That being said, It was interesting to see the responses of most people.

Next thread is Harley vs Jap Bike, right?
(I guess my referring to it as a "jap bike" already tells ya how my dad brainwashed me.)
Is it egg nog season yet?

Yeah, everyone had their bad years, but I think we can all come to the conclusion that the cars made in 1980s generally sucked and had no personality to them whatsoever. Yeah, the XJ came out in the 80s, but it took until the 90s to make it a nice vehicle. It was just a generic wagon with a good motor in the 80s. And the YJ?

uhhh, I'm going to need you to cite when the XJ became a "nice" vehicle.
Good for what it is, Yes... but nice?

My dad has owned almost nothing but Chevy and recently Mazda. Out of the cars he's owned in his life, all but four have been Chevy. Same with my mom. The Mazda thing started because they wanted an awd platform with a manual, and the (to them) better offering at the time was the Speed6. He was always impressed at how well the Miatas and RX cars did in autocross, and ended up buying an RX-8 and two Miatas for that purpose.

haha I've had nothing but bad experience with dodge trucks. My friend drives a 93 with 110k on it that might as well be two stroke with the amount of oil it sucks down. Most of the ones I see are rot boxes riddled with front end problems.

Cummins trucks are my only exception. I'd drive the shit out of a dodge with a cummins and a 5/6 speed in it.

6.2's and 6.5's are a dark period in chevy's history, I won't deny that they are junk. They sound like they have marbles in em even when their running right. Not to mention they have no sack haha

I have nothing against chevy's trucks. I just can't see myself buying one unless it was a D-max or one of the really new trucks. I have a really hard time getting past the junk interiors.

Both of my Dodges have been great so far. The Ram has gotten a balljoint replaced and a leak detection pump and that has been it for 140k. Waterpump is about to go though. But 140K for a waterpump is not bad at all. My Dakota got a trans rebuild at 90k and ball joints. Wasn't too bad either for the amount that I jumped it.

Regardless of brand right now, all three domestics are putting out some nice vehicles to make sure the brand survives. Ford has really impressed me as of late.

i think the new chevy trucks look like shit.

I hate the front end, i hate the boxiness of it.

At least the Ram's are sexy; that thing looks like the really fat girl in high school that no one liked.

This is what i wanted to get, and probably will once the warranty runs out on my 1500:

Not a fan of the new body style. I liked the one before it better.
