  • Car Brand Allegiance

Whenever a discussion regarding various car brands comes up in this forum, in inevitably just turns into a mindless bashing of the brands themselves, and not the actual automobiles in question.

The question: Why do some of you have such a deep-seated, ironclad, undying allegiance to a certain automaker?

Is it like a sports team, i.e. you like what your father likes? Is it a matter of personal experience? Really, I'd like to know the source for this devotion.

I, for one, have no particular preference for brands. I judge each automotive offering for what it is. I just don't get the hatfield-mccoy mentality some display.

No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

and chevy all the way. that being said, stating that I like what my father likes is a very good representation of my reasoning. I was raised from die hard Chevy roots so it works for me. Its what I know the best, so in turn, its what i love. Jeep is my exception. Been thinkin about trading in my Silverado for a Wrangler.

Whilst I know very little about automobiles... I was also raised with a father who is a chevy man through and through. Strangely enough, his hatred towards ford rubbed off on me more than his love for Chevy's.

However, Since owning a jeep and having a boner for them since the crocodile hunter used to drive around in one, they've held a special place in my heart.

If it looks cooL, I'll take it. Whatever.

I was brought up in a MOPAR family. Nothing special, Uncle and friend race Dodges and every other brand under the Chrystler umbrella. Grew up in a Jeep, own 2 now.

for me its not so much just hating other automakers outright. i was raised with an ever dying hatred for ford as well. however, i have driven a bunch of mustangs and other ford products, and fucking love them, but still would never own one.

I'm just here to bash Chevy anyway.

Much like with firearms, I openly bash some brands because unlike car manufacturers, some firearms manufacturers offer nothing worth talking about. I'm highly opinionated, what can I say.

                      Everything was MOPAR growing up.

My dad had and still has a Jeep CJ7 that i used to go for rides in when i was little and helped him work on. Feel in love with Jeeps through that.

My dad is a Richard Petty fan as well as my uncle, who owned a plymouth roadrunner with a hemi. My other uncle has always owned a dodge pickup truck.

There was just something about the blue collar, detroit attitude behind the MOPAR and Hemi nametags. Not to mention, i had a dukes of hazzard poster in my room with the general lee on it when i was little too.

I guess that explains my loyality and love for them. I still think though that when i look at old muscle cars, nothing screams American muscle quite like the challenger or the 'cuda. My dream car is a 1970 Challenger, and i'd probably take someones life to even own one of the new challengers. There's just something about 'em.

As for my liking for ford..... that's been kind of recent. I'm a big Roush-Fenway Racing fan, so i guess all that NASCAR marketing does work on some of us. But i'm also just really impressed with the quality of the cars they have been making recently.

And as for Toyota..... I think tacomas are the coolest of the midsize trucks, and i wanna go fast in the desert.
