I grew up diehard Chevy following my fathers footsteps with a hatred towards ford and dodge being neutral ground.
Today I can have an appreciation for all cars in some way shape or form. Still and will always lean towards Chevrolet. There is something awesome about being able to take a 50's Chevy small block and bolt it's transmission to a 70's big block, a 90's V6, or a 2000 era aluminum block. The versatility makes you have many options when building Chevy drivetrains.

I prefer to see American cars in America but I understand the desire for foreign cars sometimes. American automakers are usually late on trends. Myself, I'm into old school American iron. Give me anything made by anybody older than 1960ish and I'm into it. They were all unique back then and each maker had different ideas.

What I do have a hatred for is the stereotypical groups that go with types of cars. I notice this at the strip. Majority of Subaru people are flatbrim kids and they don't really have respect for any other car. They believe Subaru is the best and don't want to talk to any outsiders. Once in awhile I talk to a subaru owner that I could talk to for hours, a true car guy that has appreciation for all car types. Same goes with the Honda civic scene. Majority are of mexican descent and are generally disrespectful towards the rest of the car world. But sometimes there's a guy with a good head on his shoulders who has an interest in cars and just has taste for civics. That's cool and I have had great conversations with people like that.

Bottom line is we are all car guys and we all have different taste.

Ill always lean towards chevy. My father growing up had a 69 camaro and ill never forget that car. Its the reason i will always go back to chevy no matter what. Even though i may buy a bmw or jeeps here and there i will always love chevys. Long in short saabs eat dick.

For me, it's not the brand, but the car itself. I have owned three STS's, and love the CTS-V. I like the Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler. I'm fond of the outback sedan. I have always wanted a 1976 Cooper mini sportpack. Never been a fan of ford, but a few times they have impressed me with a couple of cars here and there. Never into exotic super cars. I would much prefer a sleeper. Most car companies offer something in their line-up that would suit the needs of the people, but as far as brand loyalty goes, I am pretty sure it's a lot like sports teams. Who the fuck cares really. If you started a thread about the top three wide receivers of all time, it would just turn into a team bashing thread... I figured that you have been on the interwebs enough to understand that at the very least.

Cars I have owned have been mostly GM:
        ElCamino
        Seville STS
        LaSabre
        Volvo DL
        Seville STS
        YJ
        Sunfire
        TJ
        Seville STS
        WK

If I like a car, I like it. Sometimes it's styling, sometimes it's just what I want when I want it, and sometimes it's a point A-to-B thing...

I would prefer an M1 or Sherman Tank personally.... but if I can't afford a CTS-V, I guess those are out of the question as well.

I have been a die hard Saab fan, no idea why. I have owned a lot and currently have 3. When I bought my truck I was not a follower of Chevy, Dodge or Ford, I found a truck i liked and bought it.

That hurts my feelings so much! I'm going to sell my car and buy a 90s bmw so dizzy thinks I'm cool.

As for everyone else, I'm impressed you were all able to provide sensible answers in a thread for once

Brought up in a Chevy family. Dad always had a Ford work truck that went through transmissions like a baby goes through diapers. So that turned me off of Ford.

Chevy turned me away by putting out cheap vehicles that looked and drive like crap. Ford was doing the same around that time. The Dodge cars/trucks weren't much better but at least they had style.

The "new" 1994 Dodge Ram really caught my eye.

Chevy was putting out this turd...

I had always loved Jeeps and the Viper. My favorite muscle car was the 1970 Hemi Cuda (my dad owned 2 Corvettes) so I basically made up my mind on my own and was a Mopar fan.

I have owned mostly Mopar vehicles with no major problems.

                1992 Saab 900S - sold at 145k
                1998 Dodge Dakota - sold at 142K
1990 Jeep Cherokee - currently own (buggy)
                2003 Dodge Ram 1500 - currently own 140K
                1991 Jeep Cherokee - currently own 170K
1999 VW Golf GTI - currently own 190K

No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

                    .
Well, I care, how does that sound? If you don't care, then you don't have to post in the thread. Everyone else seemed capable of providing some reasoning as to why they like a certain brand. Its just getting the back story to people's opinions, I found a lot of them interesting, even dizzy's despite his never-ending critique of saab.

Thanks for the internet advice, maybe you can start some threads that get people to post on the forum, because if you haven't noticed, its been a slow couple of days.

I understand that everyone has their own tastes, but its interesting to see why they have those tastes.

You really want to know why I ended up liking Mopars?

I have always been a Jeep guy since my Dad had one in 86. I remember working on that with him since I was a kid so obviously thats what made me get into it. I always wondered though, if he had a civic, would I be into ricers?

I ended up getting my Power Wagon because I wanted a pick-up with 4 full size doors that was standard. I didn't like the Ford butterfly doors and the one with 4full doors is just too big. Plus, I was in the market for a diesel and the Cummins motors always impressed me when we used them as generators or for bow thrusters. Ended up steering away from the diesel when I found the PW though; love at first sight.

I really can't say a love a brand more than any other, but I have owned enough to know what I liked.

                            I've had two chevy/gmc stepsides which I loved, a 00 malibu, a 92 325i, a 99 XJ, 97 altima which wouldn't die, and now a saab and a cj5.

Really price factors into my decision the most, and then from there I form judgements on the vehicle or brand. All my vehicles except for the Malibu were good cars.

But I guess deep down jeeps have over the past 5-6 years really grown on me.

I've had chevy trucks as long as I've been driving and they've never let me down. They've all run for over 200k without dumping 1000's of dollars into em. Why mess with a good thing?
